Rethinking Worship: Discover the True Essence of Worship in Upcoming Spirit and Truth Conference by Explain International (May 10th-11th 2024)

A recent Explain International debate

In John 4:23-24, Jesus said a time will come when the true worshippers will worship the Father in spirit and in truth. This is the kind of worshipper the Father seeks for the Father is Spirit.

Besides prayer, worship is the most essential aspect of our relationship with our Creator. While in prayer we speak and listen to Him, worship is where we celebrate God for who He is, and in our newfound identities and relationship with Him and through Christ Jesus.

Because of the importance of this element of our relationship with God, Explain International will be organising and conducting a conference on the theme of Redefining Worship on the 10th and 11th of May 2024

Details are as below:

Spirit and Truth Conference: Redefining Worship.

Venue: Full Gospel Assembly (FGA) Kuala Lumpur (Jalan Kuchai Lama).

Date: Friday – Saturday, May 10 – 11, 2024.

Time: 7:30-10:30pm (10th May); 9am – 3pm (11th May)

Explain International shares, “Our goal in organizing this conference is multi-angled. We hope and believe that this conference will bless participants though these 5 aspects:

  1. Demonstrate that biblical worship involves more than just singing in church services but encompasses our lifestyle and attitude.
  2. Expound on the relationship between biblical worship and Christian apologetics.
  3. Explore the role of music in the context of biblically grounded worship.
  4. Highlight the significance of the Holy Spirit and truth to biblical worship.
  5. Encourage believers to confidently engage unbelief with an attitude of worship.”

Explain International’s mission is to glorify God by biblically equipping Christians to explain the faith in fulfilling the Great Commission. They are an interdenominational parachurch ministry, and they work with different evangelical churches and seminaries. They began in 2018 as a local apologetics ministry but gradually expanded to serving internationally in countries like the US, Fiji, Australia, and Singapore.

Since their founding, they have expanded their vision to move beyond the realm of apologetics by venturing into areas such as worship, biblical languages, church history, and christian education. In addition, they currently teach at various Malaysian seminaries such as the Malaysian Baptist Theological Seminary (MBTS), EQUIP, Seminari Teoloji Malaysia (STM), and Logos Academy) with plans to collaborate with BCM and Tyrannus Online Seminary in the near future. Event Highlights

The Spirit and Truth Conference will consist of two major events. On Friday night, there will be a debate between Samuel Nesan (Trinitarian) and Rodney Smith (Oneness Pentecostal).

Debate: Samuel Nesan (Trinitarian) Vs. Rodney Smith (Oneness Pentecostal)

Date and Time: 7:30-10:30pm (10th May)

Speakers

Samuel Nesan

President of Explain International, Program Director of Malaysia Baptist Theological Seminary.

Rodney Smith

Former Professor at International Apostolic College. Possesses M. A. in Biblical Studies (Bethel Seminary) and currently pursuing D. Min. in Liberty University.

Traditionally, Christians have held to the Trinitarian doctrine. This is the doctrine that God exists as three persons but is one being, having a single divine nature. The doctrine holds that members of the Trinity are co-equal and co-eternal, one in essence, nature, power, action, and will.

In recent times, the Oneness Pentecostal movement has been making waves in the headlines. It derives its name from its teaching on what is commonly referred to as the Oneness doctrine. The doctrine states that there is one God―a singular divine spirit with no distinction of persons―who manifests himself in many ways, including as Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. This stands in sharp contrast to the doctrine of three distinct, eternal persons posited by Trinitarian theology.

What are the differences between these two doctrines? Is the Oneness Pentecostal movement biblical? Does it matter? Come and gain an insight and be edified.

Day 2: Workshop and Breakout Sessions

Samuel Nesan will also be speaking on the Biblical Overview of Worship From Genesis to Revelation in the first workshop on Saturday.

Besides Samuel, Brock James (pursuing Worship Leadership Studies at Southwestern Seminary, Worship Coordinator at Tate Springs Baptist Church) will be speaking on the role of music in worship and conducting a series of workshops on worship. Refer to the poster for the workshop itinerary.
