From a Fighter in the Police Force to a Strong Man For God: Pr Charles Albert

Kota Kinabalu: For 17 years police sergeant Charles Albert served two kingdoms – as an armed officer and a confirmed Spirit-filled praying church elder.

He patrolled the streets of the capital city uniquely as a custodian of both the laws of man, and souls for the Kingdom of Heaven, feared by villains and respected by the valiant.

The earthly kingdom paid for his service.

“I was paid by the Government of Malaysia to serve God (the Lord Jesus Christ),” he said when asked how he functioned in the dual yet opposite role.

“To my knowledge there is no one else who is police personnel cum pastor in the country,” he added.

Actually Charles wanted to quit the police and serve God full-time after he was saved by the Lord Jesus in 1995.

“But my pastor, Philip Lyn, advised to stay on, saying God will use me for His glory.

“So after his prayer, I received new strength to serve God as a policeman.”

What followed then was, the Lord Jesus was glorified, because he never fired his service gun again as a pastor.

His superiors would pass him cases of accused who needed counselling in God’s love.

“If he is a Christian who committed a crime he will be asked to be honest and confess it obeying the Bible and must still serve the sentence passed by the courts.

“In everything I do I know I serve the Lord. So I have no problem (with dual roles),” said Charles whose powerful conversion to Christ was sealed by a multitude of tears in marathon sobs after a sermon aptly titled “The Making of The Man of God”  by Pastor Phillip at SIB Likas on September 9th 1995.

The ex-Karate champ who ever donned the Sabah Police contingent flag in national tournaments still retained the fighting profile fitting St Paul’s exhortation to overcomer Christians in this spiritual race to win the imperishable crown of eternal life which will be bestowed by the Lord Jesus in Heaven.

1 Corinthians 9:26-27New International Version (NIV)

26 Therefore I do not run like someone running aimlessly; I do not fight like a boxer beating the air. 27 No, I strike a blow to my body and make it my slave so that after I have preached to others, I myself will not be disqualified for the prize.

Charles, 55, a fit regular jogger and one who submits to the fasting discipline of the Disciples of Christ is married to Binika, 55, a former Seventh Day Adventist. A soft-spoken supple countenanced “do or die” Christian who is full of the love of Christ, yet can be fierce for her Lord and her voice tears away the Devil.

Charles was confirmed Elder in year 2000.

He now pastors the SIB Putatan Ministry Centre (PMC) with about 200 members.

He retired from Polis Di Raja Malaysia (PDRM) on July 1st 2017 after serving 37 years from his transfer here in 1981 when he just turned 18.

Charles, who came a long way from the Simpang Berapit dark world of Bukit Mertajam, Penang, was an idolater, an altar boy of the famous St Anne’s church who had yearned to be a Catholic priest. His name struck fear in the hearts of criminals when he was in the force.

Then as a member of the D6 Interrogations Unit for serious crimes based at the Kepayan Police Headquarters, he and colleagues solved a murder case in which a jealous local was later sent to the gallows for shooting his wife’s suspected lover in the 90s.

D6 boasted that any accused person remanded with them will break down and confess in 72 hours.

But finally the sermon by Pastor Phillip destroyed the Devil’s lies which held him captive as a (nominal) Catholic void of power to change without embracing the Cross of Christ.

“A strong inner urge (even when he was not yet saved) led me to SIB Likas. I was expecting something great to satiate my desire for God’s touch and to be used by God.

“I was the last man to go up for prayers. I surrendered to God.

“Pastor Phillip and the whole church cried with me.

“I cried from 10am till 2pm the next day.”

Charles is endowed with the gift of expounding the Word with accuracy in the Spirit of Love. He and Binika are powerfully-filled by the Holy Spirit, preaching the pure Word boldly with signs and wonders following, casting out demons, healing the sick, releasing accurate prophecies and much more.

Binika, a Kadazandusun from Kota Marudu, north of Sabah, was converted to Christ purely by the love of God.

“No one evangelised me. I was transformed by 1 John 4.7: Beloved let us love one another : for love is of God and everyone that loveth God is born of God and knoweth God.”

She deserted SDA because they are taught that salvation comes from abstaining certain foods and not in believing and worshipping the Lord Jesus alone.

For 10 years she had also prayed hard for Charles to be freed from idolatry since their marriage in 1983.

“(True) worship is between God and I alone.

“One day I told God, ‘No point I continue to stay on earth!'”

Three years later Charles was saved.
