“We are here for the children; but we ourselves are also seeking refuge,” said the children ministry trainer, sharing from Psalm 46:1 – 11.

“God is our refuge and strength, an ever-present help in trouble.”

Psalms 46:1

“I told God I’m helpless,” Sis Cindy continued, looking at the many problems faced by children all over the world, especially those from Africa, Iraq, Afghanistan, Nepal and India.  “That heart is not enough to put all the problems, you will be overwhelmed,” she told. The participants had earlier identified some of the children’s problems in their ministries; the list was on a big heart, which represented the heart of the Father.

“God is telling us this morning, ‘look at Me, don’t look to men,’” she said. “The problems in the world are big, but put your problems in God’s hands. He is our refuge and hope.”

“Be still, and know that I am God; I will be exalted among the nations, I will be exalted in the earth.”

Psalms 46:10

“God says I will be exalted among the children of Malaysia,” she added. Why Malaysia? “Because I come from Malaysia.”

She told about the Bell Rock Lighthouse, Scotland. There were many shipwrecks and lives lost due to the visibility of a rock that surfaced only at low tide for a few hours. After 70 shipwrecks in one particular storm, Robert Stevenson proposed to build a lighthouse on the rock, but was turned down because it was too expensive and too difficult. It was not until the loss of the warship HMS York and all on board that a lighthouse was finally built. The lighthouse, described as one of the Seven Wonders of the Industrial World, saved many lives.

“I thank God I come from a normal childhood. I’m not shipwrecked. Many children are shipwrecked, they can’t see what’s ahead and went head on towards it,” she said. God calls us to be a lighthouse to show them the way to life; to rescue them, she continued.

Many children are oppressed, depressed and suppressed. Their rights to be a child are denied.

“This is the condition in which many children are in; pray and take time for them,” she called. “Pray for lives not to be shipwrecked. They that are born in such conditions; may they find refuge in our God. God is greater.”

Sis Cindy Gan has been in the children ministry for 30 years. She is currently a children ministry trainer.

The Child Counseling Seminar is organized by World Outreach International. The speaker for the seminar is Ps David Goodwin from Kidsreach, Australia.
