More than two thousand people came for Don Moen’s concert at the Grace Convention Centre (GCC) in Petaling Jaya on November 5th, in which concert tickets sold out within two weeks after launch!
Having written more than 100 songs, singer-songwriter Don Moen has received Dove Awards for his work on the ‘God with Us’ and also received multiple Dove nominations for his other work. His songs are widely recognized, some of which we are singing in our church today.
Truly, God has placed Don on this planet to be an architect who helps people experience His presence in a new and fresh way, as mentioned in his official website.
So meaningful were his lyrics in comforting the hopeless and downtrodden that the audience was kept engrossed in stillness, occasionally echoing his popular songs such as Deeper in Love, God Will Make a Way, and I Just Want to Be Where You Are.
“When we are weak, He becomes stronger, so rest in His Love and cast all your care to Him,” Don Moen sang while playing his keyboard, accompanied by special guest musician-songwriter Lenny LeBlanc and other musicians from Puerto Rico, Australia, and United States.
Other songs sang by Don Moen include Arise, He Never Sleeps, Mi Corazon, Hiding Place, Creator King, He Never Sleeps, Unchartered Territory, You will Be My Song, Somebody’s Praying for Me, Jesus Paid it All, Your Love Never Fails, Greatness of You, I Just Want to Be Where You Are, How Great is Our God, etc. Lenny LeBlanc also sang Whiter than Snow, Love Came Down, and One Desire, to name a few.
The concert lasted for close to three hours whereby Don maintained a comfortable rapport with the audience by sharing the background of each song. For example, he wrote 'Painter of the Sky' while facing Manila Bay in the Philippines. Another song called ‘Somebody’s Praying for Me’ was written when a friend told him that ten thousand people were praying for him online. At that time, he had stopped writing for a few years having quit his twenty-year job as the president of a record company. Touched by the prayers for him, Don started writing again; one of them was ‘You will be my song’, a song in his newer album called ‘Unchartered Territory.’
“There are three types of people here tonight; those who are going through the storm, those who are in the storm, and those who are smiling (out of the storm). It’s God’s way of bringing us closer to Him. It does not mean He has forsaken you,” said Don in soothing the audience.
What marked the best of the evening was the a cappella trio of Don Moen, Lenny LeBlanc and supporting vocalist Rachel Robinson, who sang many popular classics such as Lord I Offer my Life, You Make Me Lie Down, Come to the River of Life, We Give You Glory, Here We Are, Dwelling Places, and Be it Unto Me. The night ended with the Don singing God is Good All the Time, leaving the audience fulfilled in God’s presence.
Currently in his Asia Tour, Don Moen will be heading to Singapore and the Philippines next. He lives in Nashville, Tennessee with his wife Laura and five children.
