An Incredible Time of Worship

21 April 2013 by Natasha Kim CM-

It was a joyful day for Cheras Baptist Church when the singers and musicians of Stonebridge graced their Church with a special concert. Though Stonebridge is a fairly new group that was recently formed by Richard Kingsmore, they have already started touring various cities in the world. While in Malaysia, they travelled around to share the good news, to evangelize and perform.

The highly talented seven, strongly love worshipping. The help and guidance of Richard brought them to that higher level of worship, enabling them to immerse themselves in their music and bring many to a beautiful place where one can only imagine.

The Famed and Talented Musicians

Richard Kingsmore was born in Texas and is considered one of the foremost arrangers and orchestrators in Christian publishing today. The Dove award nominee began playing the piano at the age of six and studied music at a number of places. He started his career by traveling and performing and later began working as a freelance musician for Disney World, Florida. Since he founded his own company 30 years ago, he has been blessed.

Music ministers and publishers around the United States have come to associate his name with quality arrangements for choir, orchestra, and piano. Richard’s works appear in the most prominent catalogs of the church music industry. His passion for creating and leading others to worship through music make him a highly sought-after clinician at churches and conferences across the country and as a freelance arranger and orchestrator. Him and his wife, Gina, were married in 2007 and have been serving in music ministry together since they met. Now they minister together on a weekly basis leading students to understand authentic worship and God's heart for the nations.

Praise and Worship

Many attended the concert including families and students from different surrounding universities. Before the start of the performance Richard introduced the group and said, “The message we want to bring to you today is that the God of Scripture loves you and longs for a relationship with you.”

Habakkuk 3:2Lord, I have heard of your fame; I stand in awe of your deeds, Lord.
Repeat them in our day, in our time make them known; in wrath remember mercy.

Sitting through Stonebridge’s performance, I felt captivated, I felt happy and above all I felt God’s presence as their energy flowed. Words cannot fully describe the depths of the hearts they touched during that evangelical time. Good worshipping is about bringing forth your own deep emotions and expressing it on stage, which they did very well. The concert lasted two hours. In between songs, they talked about God and voiced out inspiring Bible verses, about how strong God is and how he can carry us through the storms in our life.

The Wind Ran Out of Breath. Mark 4:35-41-

35-38 Late that day he said to them, “Let’s go across to the other side.” They took him in the boat as he was. Other boats came along. A huge storm came up. Waves poured into the boat, threatening to sink it. And Jesus was in the stern, head on a pillow, sleeping! They roused him, saying, “Teacher, is it nothing to you that we’re going down?”

39-40 Awake now, he told the wind to pipe down and said to the sea, “Quiet! Settle down!” The wind ran out of breath; the sea became smooth as glass. Jesus reprimanded the disciples: “Why are you such cowards? Don’t you have any faith at all?” 41 They were in absolute awe, staggered. “Who is this, anyway?” they asked. “Wind and sea at his beck and call!”

We worship God because of what he has done and what he is doing. We were dead in our sin and because of Jesus sacrifice we’ve been brought to life with Him, that’s why we worship. Whenever you stand before God, know that He loves you!

Romans 8:31What, then, shall we say in response to these things? If God is for us, who can be against us?

Footnote – Cheras Baptist Church was formed in 1984 as part of the efforts of Grace Baptist Church and Bethel Baptist Church with a greater need for the gospel in Cheras. From a small group of families, Cheras Baptist grew steadily with more and more families from different parts of Cheras joining the church. In year 2000, the church realized an urgency in for the awareness of early intervention services, thus Early Steps Care Centre (ESCC) was formed to address this need. Up till this day, the ESCC has been one of the many ministries of the church intending to impact our community around us. Now about 150 people attend the Church on a weekly basis.

Those who are interested in joining their services, they have two services on Sunday mornings, the Chinese congregation at 8:30am as well as the main English service at 10:30am. Their Youth ministry is on every Saturday at 2pm.

Rev. Kenneth Lee is the Senior Pastor and Pastor Lee Yau Sang is the Chinese Pastor. Yeoh Soo Han and Timothy Lee make up the rest of the pastoral/ministry staff in the church.
