It has always been my heart’s desire for a long time to pen my testimony to tell people of God’s faithfulness and Hand upon my life and of how He had brought me out of, not one , but several near-death situations. Besides that, I also felt the need to give Him the glory that is long overdue. So let me relate to you how God intervened in my life.
Way back in 1998, I was diagnosed with a thyroid problem and surgery was advised. As a result, I was put on medication prior to the scheduling of the operation. The medication worsened my panting bouts, but I still continued with it faithfully, believing that it was something I had to put up with.
One evening, at around seven, I was panting so severely that I felt like I was suffocating and I couldn’t move my neck, talk or phone for help. In my utter desperation, I could only do one thing- I knelt and spoke to God in my spirit. I reminded Him of a testimony I had heard; of how He had healed a lady of terminal uterine cancer. I cried to the Lord and asked Him to heal me believing that if He could heal her, He could also heal me as He was a powerful God and He was the Lord Almighty . As though in response to my cries, I heard in my spirit the word, “Count,” spoken in a very authoritative voice. So I started counting although I was still panting for breath. Soon, I was slowly making counts of one to ten in long-drawn breaths and to my delight, started breathing normally after several one-to-ten counts. Joy filled my soul and I was brimming with joy, which like a medicine was bringing me healing and relieving me of all pain and discomfort.
After I was brought out of my desperate situation I began to reminisce upon it. I was reminded of 1 John 2:27, “…the anointing that you received from him resides in you, and you have no need for anyone to teach you…” and realised that God had been leading me in the incident and He had poured out His anointing upon me.
A week after my experience, I was at a healing rally in Calvary Life Assembly (Chinese), Melaka, when a call was made from the pulpit for individuals who needed healing, to place their hands on those parts of their body that needed healing and call unto the Lord to heal them. When I did just that, I felt a power gently enveloping me, helping me lift my head and healing me. I had not been able to lift my head or tilt it backwards for some time.
When I returned to the hospital for my consultation and related my panting experiences to my doctor, he remarked that I should have chosen to cut down my medication by half. On hearing this, I decided to discontinue the medication and to believe God for healing. For the next two to three years, my thyroid reading which had been at 39 to 80 was reduced to a good reading of 13. I thank God for His healing and I want to give all glory due His Name.
On the fourth day of Chinese New Year in the year 1999, I was admitted to the Melaka General Hospital due to dengue fever. After a week of being in the hospital, I was still no better. In fact, my condition was worsening even though I had undergone two blood transfusions. My blood platelet count hovered at 28 and doctors feared that I would start haemorrhaging. At 10 a.m. my family was told to be prepared for the worst as they had already done all they could. I knew I was dying.
At 12 noon, some sisters from church came over to pray for me. I knelt down and in a flash, I saw myself kneeling before Jesus, asking Him to heal my blood and to bring my platelet counts to normal. Then I quickly went back to bed. Within 24 hours, my blood platelet count rose to 70 and I believe that this was the Healing Hand of our God. I was discharged the next day.
Another miracle that happened was when we were making a trip back to Melaka from Kuala Lumpur. I had a premonition that something was wrong with our car. I ignored my inner thoughts until fear crept in when we felt our car wobble after passing Seremban ((Negeri Sembilan) town. I cried to our Lord to take care of us believing that He was omnipotent and omniscient. My husband, who was at the wheel, was driving at the speed limit of 110 km/per hour, hoping to make it to the Air Keroh toll in Melaka to get help. A voice within me kept reminding me to get my husband to go at 80 km/per hour. Immediately, I got my husband to drive at 80 and all fear left me. Peace flooded my heart and we reached home safely.
The next morning when we brought our car to the mechanic, he told us that our tyres on both sides were not level and if we had driven at 100 km/per hour, our car would have probably overturned. It was indeed the Lord who had spoken to take us out of danger.
Another incident happened on the 15th June of 2012. I had just had a growth of one centimeter removed from my breast. The growth proved malignant and my doctor recommended chemotherapy. The doctor’s words caused fear to grip me and I felt like the apostles who were trapped in the boat in the raging overwhelming waves. I tunnelled into an abyss of great anxiety and anguish. At that moment I only yearned to see no one but Jesus. I felt His peace when I dismissed the idea of having the chemotherapy although my family pestered me to have it. His peace was my dwelling place and I reminded God of how he had healed me of my thyroid problems and had delivered me of a near-accident, believing that he would spare me the turmoil of chemotherapy. Together with dietary controls, His peace carried me through those adverse health circumstances. Two whole years of regular check-ups have showed no cancer cells in my blood test results, x-rays and scans. I want to give all glory to God for He has spared me of the ordeal of ravaging chemotherapy sessions. He also spoke to me through Ephesians 6:14-17, “14 Stand firm then, with the belt of truth buckled around your waist, with the breastplate of righteousness in place,15 and with your feet fitted with the readiness that comes from the gospel of peace. 16 In addition to all this, take up the shield of faith, with which you can extinguish all the flaming arrows of the evil one. 17 Take the helmet of salvation and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God.”
In addition, the Lord delivered me of fear and panic. Through Psalms 103:1-5, He gave and continues to give me faith and words of comfort.
“1 Praise the Lord, my soul;
all my inmost being, praise his holy name.
2 Praise the Lord, my soul,
and forget not all his benefits—
3 who forgives all your sins
and heals all your diseases,
4 who redeems your life from the pit
and crowns you with love and compassion,
5 who satisfies your desires with good things
so that your youth is renewed like the eagle’s.”
I was leading in worship in church one day in 2013 and it was the 7th day of the Chinese New Year. All of a sudden panic and fear welled up within me. But the Lord’s light voice of the said Psalms floated past my ears and took away my fears and made me calm, enabling me to lead well in worship.
Through faithfully claiming the promises in His Word and depending on His Holy Spirit, I receive God’s provision and power in my life. My faith is increased through the power of His Word.
I want to give thanks to the Lord as leaning upon Him in difficult times has brought me blessings. Just like the disciples who saw the hand of the God in the calming of the storm, in my storms of life, I have experienced the healing hand of God which has brought me peace and joy. These unforgettable experiences help me know and love Him even more. Not leaning upon our own strength but depending upon the Lord and His mercies and promises, we will obtain new life in Him. This is true my beloved brethren, walk with the Lord in your trials and you will obtain grace and incorruptible new life and His manifold promises now and for eternity. God bless you. Amen.
