On January 19, I attended the ‘Elvis 78th tribute show” held by the official Elvis Presley fan club of Malaysia and the Elvis Alliance of Asia. This event is held to honor the late Rocky Teoh, our very own Malaysian Elvis Presley and to honor Elvis Presley as well.
Ht Long, award-winning recording artiste, composer, Elvis Presley of Malaysia, current president and chairman of the official Elvis Presley fan club and active evangelist, was the hilarious emcee and charming singer for the night. At nine years old, he became a fan of Elvis after watching him for the first time in “GI Blues”. In the 1970’s, he won many Elvis Presley singing competitions, landing him many gigs in clubs and pubs. At that time, he has not believed in God.
But in year 1989, the Lord Jesus touched him and he accepted Jesus! In 1994, he gave up his video and restaurant business to enter full-time ministry. Now, he is using his deep soulful voice for charity concerts and hundreds of churches in Malaysia and various part of the world.
Max Loh, Nicholas Ong and Roy Chu kicked off the event. Next, Alastair Rosas from the Philippines sang Proud Mary, I can’t stop loving you and You gave a mountain.

Of course, H.T. Long sang with his heart– Flaming Star, His Latest Flame and Follow That Dream and Take my Hand, Precious Lord and Jacqueline.

Alex Wong, an impersonator of the late Rocky Teoh, was also a captivating singer who performed renditions including Goodbye, Crying in the Chapel and Can’t Help Falling in Love.

Eric Alvarez from Philippines came on-stage, to sing Blue suede shoes, (Let me be your) teddy bear, A fool such as I, Jailhouse rock, That’s all right Mama, I just Can’t Help Believing’, Lead me Guide me Lord, Welcome to my World, Sweet Caroline and Stop Looking and Listen.

Ht Long came back on-stage to welcoming fans, singing Like Honey in the Rock. And finally, Alex Wong closed the night powerfully with his Burning love and You’re always on my mind.
What a great night listening to these charming singers. It felt like Elvis Presley came back alive! Mostly, Elvis’ gospel songs were moving, sincere, simple and honest. Despite Elvis’challenging signature style of singing and swaying, the performers today did an amazing work impersonating Elvis.
“I would like to thank Elvis today, because if it’s not for him, I would not be able to be an impersonator,” said Alex Wong to a laughing crowd.
Music connects people in powerful ways. May the Lord continue to use Ht Long and his Elvis crew to touch the hearts of people through singing gospel sings by Elvis Presley.
Finally, watch a video by HT Long singing ‘Somebody Bigger than You and I’
