SHINE is the women’s ministry of River of God City Church (ROGCC), Ipoh. Started in the mid of 2012, SHINE seeks to inspire women of all ages to live above what they are going through, and to rise above the storms with God. SHINE aims to see women from all backgrounds live lives that reflect the love of God in every area of their lives.
SHINE started off as a program for the older and younger generation to come together in ROGCC, and have carried our programs that encourage healthy relationships, such as the Princess For A Day event, which encouraged teen girls to abstain from sexual acts before marriage. SHINE has also taken women for mini mission trips to visit the Orang Asli at Slim River, blessing the community there with basic necessities such as clothing.
Recently registered as an NGO, SHINE is now a foundation that seeks to empower women of all ages, color and creed with a message of faith, hope and love. According to Sister Priscilla Raj, founder of SHINE, ‘women have the power and influence to bring a change in their world when they are connected to a purpose and vision bigger and higher than themselves. Women can and will make a difference when they know that they are worth far more than rubies’ (Psalms 31:10 – Who can find a virtuous and capable wife? She is more precious than rubies.). However, there is still a long way to go in bringing this message as we are living in days where every day we hear of abuse, rape and human trafficking cases.
This year, SHINE is organizing the ‘Beautiful, Free & Fabulous – A Woman’s Worth’ conference for women on the 7th and 8th of December 2012. The conference will be held at River of God City Church and aims to equip, empowered and arm the city’s women with the knowledge that she is worth far more than rubies, as women who know their worth can be an unstoppable force in this world.
Conference speakers Rev. Prof. Dr. George Thevarakam who is an international preacher, evangelist and counselor, and alumnus of the Bible College of Malaysia (BCM) in PJ, and Juwita Suwito who is a singer, songwriter and no stranger to the professional music scene will bring the message of hope that will restore, equip, spur and inspire women to be who God has called them to be.
With messages from the internet, television and radio bombarding us with messages about who we should be and what we should do, it is important for all of us to listen and learn about how God sees us, and what our Creator wants us to be.
