Holy Spirit; the Ever Present Helper

1 Feb 2014 by Natasha Kim CM –

One day during his protracted season of prayer and search for the Holy Spirit, Pastor Robert Ssesanga put down the book he was reading and decided to pray spontaneously. “I began to bubble in tongues out of my most inner-being and not from the mind as before. It was so refreshing and joyful, unlike the tiring and boring imitation. This awakened me to the reality of the Holy Spirit and the efficacy of His power and Word” he shared. Since then, he has had many glorious encounters with Him and have also witnessed the magnanimity of His miraculous power in different nations. The Holy Spirit is God with and in us, in this present part of our lives.

Genesis 1:1-3

In the beginning, God created the heavens and the earth. The earth was without form and void, and darkness was over the face of the deep. And the Spirit of God was hovering over the face of the waters. And God said, “Let there be light,” and there was light.

John 1:1-3

In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was in the beginning with God. All things were made through him, and without him was not anything made that was made.

Robert shared at a recent FGB (Full Gospel Businessmen) meeting, at Summit USJ on the 22nd of January, about how we need to get to know the Holy Spirit. Many are born again, but yet are very ignorant about Him. “If you stay ignorant about the Spirit and His operations in the world today, you deny yourself of limitless possibilities” he said. The Holy Spirit is a counsellor, a helper, our intercessor, our advocate, our strengthener, the spirit of truth, and our standby. God is a God of principles. “As long as we hold on to godly principles, God regardless of where we are or how old we are, will always manifest Himself” he said. That sounds easy enough, but the problem is many people fail to understand because they do not understand God’s principles that is in the Bible.

John 14:16-17

And I will pray the Father, and He will give you another Helper, that He may abide with you forever 17 the Spirit of truth, whom the world cannot receive, because it neither sees Him nor knows Him; but you know Him, for He dwells with you and will be in you.

Acts 10:34-35

Then Peter opened his mouth and said: “In truth I perceive that God shows no partiality. 35 But in every nation whoever fears Him and works righteousness is accepted by Him.

Acts 2:1-3

When the Day of Pentecost had fully come, they were all with one accord in one place. And suddenly there came a sound from heaven, as of a rushing mighty wind, and it filled the whole house where they were sitting. Then there appeared to them divided tongues, as of fire, and one sat upon each of them.

You might know the acts of God but if you do not know the ways of God, you will go astray. “For example, according to scripture, every time the children of Israel needed a miracle they cried out to Moses. Every time they needed another miracle, they did not know how to reproduce it. They complained so much that God was fed up with them” shared Robert.  Every time Moses needed a miracle, he went into the presence of God and prayed. If you understand the operations of the Holy Spirit, no matter where you are, no matter the situation, you will always get His manifestation. Receiving His presence comes from continuous fellowship with God. “Many times we have good plans, but there are also godly plans” he said.

In this day and age, the routine and system of the world is such that people follow it blindly. Similarly there’s a routine in churches, whereby they know how to begin the service and sermon and how to end it. Robert stressed however, that the Church needs to be flexible and follow the ways of the Holy Spirit. “The purpose of preaching is so that you bring people into a relationship with God. If God sees that you do better without your sermon, you put your sermon aside and say, “Holy Spirit have your way!” Nowadays the Church is so professional, they know how to do it and when to do it” he said. Routine in this case, means that you’re even planning for the Holy Spirit and what He wants to do. This is why it is important to know the ways of the Holy Spirit! “The hardest thing on this earth, isn’t lions or tsunamis, its men. To minister and to do good to people, you need the Holy Spirit” he said. Many people have given up on ministry because they were ministering in their power.

Robert then shared one of his experiences where the presence of God was so strong that instead of two hours, the service just kept on running for seven hours! “After seven hours nobody wanted to move” he said. The members of the congregation were surprised when he told them how long they had been there for. “That’s how real the presence of God can be. Let me tell you humbly and firmly, God wants to manifest Himself in all nations all across the world, so do not build your expectations according to the culture in a nation, build your expectations according to what God has done in His Word” shared Robert. God is the same yesterday, today and forever (Hebrews 13:8) He is able to perform His miracles even until this day. “As a matter of fact He is doing much more now than He did before. Our days are days of greater glory!” he shared. Expect God to do much more today! He will not cast you away! Know the ways of God and allow Him to manifest Himself in your life.

Haggai 2:9

The glory of this present house will be greater than the glory of the former house,’ says the LORD Almighty. ‘And in this place I will grant peace,’ declares the LORD Almighty.

Romans 10:13

For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.
