Welcoming the Glory of God

28 June 2013 by Natasha Kim CM –

Sunway Mas Community Centre (SMCC), Petaling Jaya, is officially opened up to all members of the community! They held their dedication day the past weekend where many from all walks of life came to witness them usher in the presence of God. According to Senior Pastor Chew Weng Chee the whole building including construction amounted to about RM 15 million. It was indeed their special day of celebration! Many balloons floated at the entrance and many delightful faces greeted those entering the building.

“I want to thank all of you for contributing to the building fund. We dedicate this building back to the glory of God” said Chew to all who were present. SMCC is especially for the community, as it grows it has helped many businesses in the surrounding area to grow as well and for that many are pleased. To date, many businesses have flourished because the centre has opened up!

Pastor Chew preached on this day and talked about what “Welcoming God’s Glory” really means and its significance. He began by reciting a Bible verse about the Ark of the Covenant and how the Lord blessed Obed-Edom and his household just because it was in his house.

David was afraid of the Lord that day and said, “How can the ark of the Lord ever come to me?” He was not willing to take the ark of the Lord to be with him in the City of David. Instead, he took it to the house of Obed-Edom the Gittite. The ark of the Lord remained in the house of Obed-Edom the Gittite for three months, and the Lord blessed him and his entire household.

2 Samuel 6:9-11

According to the story, God was furious at David because he placed the Ark of the Covenant on a cart that was being carried by an ox. It wasn’t stable at all. David went wrong because he never asked the Lord. “He thought that God can come anytime, anywhere at his convenience. He was wrong” said Pastor Chew.

“The Ark of the Covenant represents the presence and the glory of God, because it was in Obed-Edoms house, it was blessed… God was a very gracious guest. As we usher in the presence of God I believe that God will also bless the house, because His presence is here.” said Chew. When we intentionally choose to invite Gods presence into our life what in fact we are doing is exalting the greatness of God! This is an act to show that when God takes first place in your life and in return you will experience His goodness.

The wonderful time of praise and worship.

“Without God’s glory this place is just a building” Pastor Chew strongly shared. Everyone must honour God and place Him first. “Let God be God! And not just do everything your way” he added. Whenever Chew wanted to do something, he would ask God, “Is this your way?”

None of us are perfect but when we honour God, hence we have to put God first and declare His greatness!

Pastor Chew then went on to share numerous living testimonies of those who have had their households and families flourish by praying and putting God first in their lives. In the north of Sabah, farmers have seen the produce of the land increase. Their crops have multiplied tremendously. One family mentioned how they’ve never seen anything like it, from their usual harvest of 6 or 7 sacks of rice from the paddy field; it had increased to fifty sacks! Another family nearby testified that their harvest had increased from 10 to 15 sacks to a whopping 80 sacks of rice! This really pleased the families, at how faithful God is when they are faithful to Him. “When the glory of God comes even the produce of the land increase!” shared Pastor Chew.

He took all the gold and silver and all the articles found in the temple of God that had been in the care of Obed-Edom, together with the palace treasures and the hostages, and returned to Samaria.

2 Chronicles 25:24

As the story in the Bible continues, when they Ark of the Covenant was finally taken from Obed-Edom’s home, he followed it to the temple so that he could be close to the ark. The simple man was then dubbed the minister of the treasury / the door-keeper, due to his hunger for the presence of the Lord. As he began to worship the Lord he experienced the goodness of God.

Host God’s presence in your life every day. “Not only will you and I be blessed as we host His glory and His presence, your descendants will also be blessed” shared Pastor Chew before he finally ended his sermon and closed in prayer.

At the end of the service, everyone then adjourned to have a wonderful dinner together.
