The Word This Week – YOUR BATTLE BELONGS TO GOD, DO NOT FEAR!

2 Chronicles 20:15-17 – 15:  This is what the Lord says to you: ‘Do not be afraid or discouraged because of this vast army. For the battle is not yours, but God’s.

“Then Jesus said to his disciples: ‘Therefore I tell you, do not worry about your life, Aren’t you not more valuable than the birds of the air, whom I feed. Why do you worry then?

Can you add a moment to your life by worrying? Since you cannot do this very little thing, why do you worry about the rest?’” (Luke 12:22-26, Matt.6: 25-28)

Why are worried about tomorrow’s when you have your own problems to deal with today?

Dr. Charles Mayo says, “there is a growing mountain of evidence to suggest that worry is the chief contributor to depression, nervous breakdowns, high blood pressure, heart attacks and early death. I have never known a man die from hard work, but I have known a lot who died from worry.”

What is worry anyway?  Can worrying solve your problem? Worry is a strong negative emotional force that drains your emotional and physical energy, depleting your joy, peace and wellbeing.  It kills you at every level. It is a chronic concern so to speak! You know what? Chronic worrying affects your daily life so much that it alters your lifestyle to function normally.

Basically, worry is an event or episode you are unable to control, it’s a situation that frightens and torments you, it’s a problem that keeps you awake when you are supposed to be sleeping. The mixture of all these factors will leave you drained and depressed in the end. Besides, when worrying becomes excessive, it can lead to feelings of high anxiety and fear and the ultimate result may end up deadly with physical illness and suicidal tendencies.

SATAN USES FEAR TO DESTROY THE MIND AND THE BODY

The lies of the devil will always find its way into human reasoning, human logic, human rational thinking, and he will bombard you repeatedly and patiently wait for you to approve and agree with him. The moment you accommodate his lies he takes control of your life to steal, destroy and kill your God-given life (John 10:10). That’s how subtly the devil conquers you.

Fear destroys you at every level but faith creates hope and expectation that you can count on the faithfulness of God. “God’s Word is health to all our flesh” (Proverbs 3:8).

NEGATIVE THOUGHTS CAN TURN INTO THE ENEMY’S AGENDA

But you know what? Sadly, a large number of people (including Christians) are tormented by wasteful negative thinking about themselves. Remember, thoughts can turn into actions! Every time a negative thought comes to your mind, you need to remind yourself that God loves you no matter what! Because of the righteousness of Christ in you.

IT’S AN ABSOLUTE LIE

If you happen to replay your memory back to the thoughts of worry  that took place in your life last year or even last week for that matter, you would discover that most of the concerns that you have been worrying about, never really took place! Am I right?

Psychological studies have concluded that a large proportion of the human energy and time are wasted unnecessarily in unproductive manner because of our overwhelming worries. A large proportion of what we worry about, after all never really happens. Just imagine most of the time we worry for no good reason at all! And if we continue in this attitude and mindset we end up dying early. Have you ever questioned yourself why?

Here is what you need to understand clearly. The underlying spirit behind this negative thinking does not originate from God. God will never show you defeat! God will never torment you with the negatives. He will always tell you no matter what your circumstances “you can make it”. God’s love is such a powerful force, one that will carry us through, even in the most difficult trials into victory. When we realize the love of God in our lives (Rom 5:8), we no longer have to live in fear and uncertainty in our lives.

THE MINDSET WHICH IS INFLUENCED BY FEAR IS A MINDSET OF THE ENEMY

As we fear, the things that we don’t want it to happen we are actually bringing about the manifestation of the very thing that we are focusing on with fear. In fact we are operating a counterforce to faith because fear is the enemy of faith.  If we are operating in fear, we are actually bringing this reality into our life because fear is a spiritual force. A DEMONIC STRONGHOLD.

Job was acknowledged by God himself that he was a righteous servant of God. He was an excellent and upright man that He applauded him before satan. God challenged satan if satan could find anybody like his servant Job in the whole universe!

WHY DID JOB MEDIATE ON THE ENEMY’S LIES?

God’s opinion and expectation of Job was excellent. Despite how God thought of him, Job said when he was afflicted in Job.3:25: “For the thing I greatly feared has come upon me, And what I dreaded has happened to me.” The very fear of what he did not want it to happen, happened! WHY SHOULD HE THINK THIS WAY AND ALLOWED THE ENEMY TO TRAP HIM?

When you and I are not prepared to renew our mind in line with what God says in His word, we are left with no choice but to be influenced by the enemy’s way of thinking.

“As a man thinketh in his heart so is he” (Pro.23:7)

For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and love and of a sound mind.”  (2 Timothy 1:7)

FEAR IS DEVELOPED BY MEDITATING ON THE LIES OF THE DEVIL

There was a research study that was carried out at King’s College London on breast cancer patients who had undergone mastectomy. The findings showed that seven out of ten women with a strong faith were alive ten years later while four out of five who felt hopeless and worried because of their condition met an early death.

We cannot eradicate worry and anxiety totally. That of course would be unrealistic but we can control the atmosphere by viewing it from a different angle. From God’s point of view, so to speak.

Where does your hope and trust rest on despite the challenges that confront you in life? Is it based on the way the world thinks or is it rested on the God who created you?

“My peace I give to you. Not as the world gives do I give to you. Let not your hearts be troubled, neither let them be afraid (John 14:27)
