Steve Dixon has an absolute zeal for evangelism which can be seen through his expressive enthusiasm. He recently preached at Acts Central on the importance valuing one another. Right after the lively praise and worship and testimony sharing, he stepped up on the altar and began to perform a couple of songs! His singing captivated everyone in the room.
The founding pastor of Christian Life Cathedral (CLC) in Fayetteville, Arkansas, United States, is on a mission to heal the hurting and equip the body of Christ to fulfill their God given destiny. His passion for music made him revolve his ministry around it. To date they have composed 15 albums which have attracted the attention of several internationally known Christian artists, who have performed and recorded his music.
Pursue what God has anointed You to Do
According to the Bible in 1 Samuel 16, David is anointed by Samuel to be the next king even though he was just a simple musician. All of us have a special calling from God just like David. His story is one that many can relate to. “Long before you ever fulfill your assignment God will anoint you for it!” shared Steve. God prepares us so that we are ready when the time comes.
Simultaneously when David cut off the head of the giant Goliath he carried it around, but not for long because he had to bury it before it stank. Just like David we should bury our egos after we accomplish something. It is normal to want to draw people in to receive applaud but you don’t need that because God will promote you. “You discover favour while you’re faithful” said Steve.
As the story goes, David ran from Saul who wanted to kill him.
“But David thought to himself, “One of these days I will be destroyed by the hand of Saul. The best thing I can do is to escape to the land of the Philistines. Then Saul will give up searching for me anywhere in Israel, and I will slip out of his hand.” (1 Samuel 27)
“He kept telling himself this because he was tired of running” said Steve.
David was the brave man who killed Goliath! but he was running from a man. David had six hundred men and their families running along with him but he wanted to get away so bad that he even wanted to go to the land of the Philistines, where Goliath and his people were from.
In the world, there are many that are fighting to survive and get out of undesired situations but make the wrong decisions. Recognize that making the wrong decisions when you are pressured will influence a lot of other people in your life. Do not plan only for your own survival! David was anointed to be King but he was afraid that he would die before that time.
“Fear starts from our head, goes to our heart, and ends up at our feet. What a man thinks, so is he” shared Steve. Fear changes people for the worst. “We have to get to a place where we are not rehearsing our failures but anticipating our success!” shared Steve.
“Finally, brothers and sisters, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable – if anything is excellent or praiseworthy – think about such things.” (Philippians 4:8)
Don’t do life by Yourself
There are four people everyone needs in their lives:-
- Model – Someone who will show you things beyond where you are so you can start seeing possibilities like you’ve never seen before.
- Mentor – Someone who has been there and done that. There is a personal connection to them and they will speak into your life correction
- Partner – Someone of like spirit and like faith that will show up for you, encourage for you and be there for you.
- Supernatural Friend – Someone who you have an intimate relationship and who shows up with no questions asked. A supernatural friend will interfere between you and the work of the enemy and the assaults of man.
People need help and they can’t help themselves. We often get into a fight with our own fears and wear ourselves out without realizing it. In times of need, we all need a brother or a sister who we can be honest with and say “Would you please pray with me?” and then pray this prayer together saying, “God, give me the UNDERSTANDING of my current situation. God give me the DISCERNMENT of the next right thing to do and give me the WISDOM of the Holy Spirit to do it.” Many doors and possibilities will open for you if you’re faithful!
“Therefore confess your sins to each other and pray for each other so that you may be healed. The prayer of a righteous person is powerful and effective.” (James 5:16)
Do not fret for we are never fighting our battles alone, God is always with you and I and will never leave or forsake you. We have been given the whole armor of God so that we can withstand any attack that evil may throw at us. God wants to take over the voices of failures, mistakes and fears to speak truth and hope into your life!
“I am a strong believer in authenticity trumping relevance. Being authentic is incredibly important and it is the lasting ingredient for sustainability. That is what I am all about. I love community and spiritual formation, but I'm really into the sustainability of a life well lived…I follow Christ because His path is true and life sustaining. I believe in the church because it is a living, breathing organism that points people in the direction of Jesus Christ," said Pr. Steve Dixon.
