Kuching, March 5, 2013 – The audience had a surprise tonight when David Green took over the stage for a session at Good News Fellowship church here. According to organizer brother Nelson Kee from Kuching Ministers Fellowship, Christian singer Steve Green and two other members fell sick on their way to Kuching.

“God is a God of surprises,” said David to the crowd. He shared his story about keeping silent and getting his relationship restored.

Talking about Jesus’ crucifixion on Luke 23:9, he said Jesus’ silence “was showing the gospel.” The exchange happened in the silence.

In Matthew 16:24, “Then Jesus said to His disciples, ‘If anyone would come after me, he must deny himself and take up his cross and follow me.’”

“What does it mean to take up your cross?” David asked. People usually associate this to financial or health problems, or some sort of suffering. “Hardship is part of life,” he said.

The cross is an instrument of death. As believers we are dead to our sinful nature, he added. We are to deny the flesh.

How do we render ourselves to crucify flesh? By faith. “Trusting faith that I’m dead to my sinful nature; I believe by faith and by faith act on it.” Choosing to live on the path is the choice we make.

David told his story about killing weeds back home. “They keep coming back even though I’ve tried everything. It’s in the soil.” It is “sort of like the sin nature, like taking up my cross. Pulling those weeds every day; that’s what it’s like.”

“It is important for daily to be in the Word of God. Take the manna. Take the Word every day or those things of the flesh will crop up,” he said.

Jesus’ mandate is for us to “take up the cross and follow me.” The “who” is me, followers of Christ. By picking it up, we put to death our sinful nature. This is important because temptation can come and distract us. Satan does not like an effective soldier for Jesus.

The “what” is by taking up the cross. The “how” is by faith, rendering to death our sinful nature to death.

Galatians 2:20 says, “I have been crucified with Christ and I no longer live, but Christ lives in me. The life I live in the body, I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me.”

This is a great picture of how believers live, David concluded. He sang two songs including, “I am crucified with Jesus”. He was joined by team member Joel on the guitar.

“I love coming to Kuching. I have to look for it on the map because I never heard of it before,” admitted David, who is from Nashville, TN. “Kuching is a beautiful city and I’ve tried some great food. I’m looking forward to the next few days,” he said. The team will head for Singapore and Kuala Lumpur before flying back to Nashville.

Younger brother of US gospel singer, Steve Green, David has been in the ministry for 27 years. He is also Steve’s manager. He is married 33 years and has three grown children.

Steve Green is scheduled to perform on March 6, 7:30pm at Trinity Methodist Church. The 1300-seater show is currently sold out.
