The Bible scripture in Exodus 32:1 cited, “When the people saw that Moses delayed to come down from the mountain, the people gathered themselves together to Aaron and said to him, ‘Up, make us gods who shall go before us. As for this Moses, the man who brought us up out of the land of Egypt, we do not know what has become of him.”
Pr Wilson Ng who recently preached at the River of Life Sanctuary, on the 19th of January, said, “In the midst of waiting for Moses to come back the people began to carve a golden calf of God. They began to define how God is ‘supposed’ to look like. In our season and in our time, if we are not careful, we can also begin to define how God should look like and how God ought to be.” Do not build your own image of God by how you think he should be because God does not conform to what we think.
As a Christian, it is important that we guard our relationship with God according to His specifications. For example, when God asked Solomon to build a temple, He asked him to build it with specifications. If it was built wrongly, Solomon would have to tear it down and build it up once more. “The temple signifies our life! If our life is not properly tuned with God then we have to correct it and make sure that our lives are tuned with God,” shared Pr Wilson.
He then added, “If you are preaching the good news, you cannot be bad news.” God will take something bad and turn it into good. Don’t fret when something bad happens. If you are grounded in Christ, He can turn that bad into good. When satan thought that he had put Christ on the cross. He thought he had killed him forever. But Christ rose on the third day. That is the best example of how God turned a bad situation into a good situation.
Let us look only to Jesus, the One who began our faith and who makes it perfect. He suffered death on the cross. But he accepted the shame as if it were nothing because of the joy that God put before him. And now he is sitting at the right side of God’s throne. (Hebrews 12:12)
You intended to harm me, but God intended it for good to accomplish what is now being done, the saving of many lives. (Genesis 50:20)
God is the author and the finisher; He knows the beginning and the end. “As a Christian, your life is in God’s hands because He watches over you. Christians do not have problems, we only have lessons that brings us from one level to another,” he said. If you do not keep your eyes focused on God, the world will corrupt you! Even people who grow up knowing humility and respect can be corrupted. A good example of this was King Saul — he grew up in the Tribe of Benjamin and knew humility and loyalty; for example, when his father lost his donkey, Saul went looking for the donkey himself instead of asking his servants to do so, because he knew how to be a beloved son to the father. King Saul knew the Word of God but consulted mediums later in his life. “He knew what was right, and that he was chosen and anointed by God. But he allowed jealousy to come into his life. He never guard his heart,” shared Wilson.
Blessed are the pure in heart, for they will see God. (Matthew 5:8)
He shared an interesting thought that one’s life should provoke jealousy in a way that people are curious to know how you are so fired up for God. Let them say, “I wish I could be like you” or “I wish I know God the way you do.” “Today the Church needs people like that, who say, ‘I need you Lord,’” shared Wilson. Allow God to be there with you through the bad and good times, knowing that He alone can take you out of a bad situation or bring you to the next level of even better things to come! When you are able to lay your life down for God, that is when you will be able to reach greater heights.
“If you are not fearful of your life (because you fear God), that’s when the devil is fearful of you. However, when you begin to be fearful of your life, everything becomes about you and that’s when deception comes into your life,” he said. God wants to bless everybody! and our whole dependency must be on God because He is our provider. Hence, in this case, instead of saying, “I want God to bless me,” say, “I know God will bless me.” Do not think about, “Me, me, me” but instead walk in confidence knowing that God will bless you, and that He is your provider.
Sometimes in our life, we have wrong impressions of the cross. When turned upside down, the cross is used as a sword against one another, and scriptures used against one another. “If your intention is not to build and restor,e then you’re not doing what God intended you to do,” he said. Your faith in God MUST be expressed in LOVE and ultimately everything that you do should bring a fresh breath of life to another. “The church must begin to see the world the way God sees it. Don’t attack one another. People are always uncomfortable around people who soar higher than them, and they try to bring them down to their own level,” he said.
The devil has been disarmed time and time again and the only weapon he has is to put lies into our heads. “To lie is to convince somebody, to deceive is to convince yourself,” said Wilson. Learn with God and move with God once you do that, you will know that you still have a long way to go and a long journey ahead with Him, one that leads to an everlasting life!
When they kept on questioning him, he straightened up and said to them, “Let any one of you who is without sin be the first to throw a stone at her. (John 8:7)
What is important is faith expressing itself in love. (Galatians 5:6)
