FGA KL will be having the Family Conference 2.0. on the 12-14 of September. There will be 17 qualified and experienced speakers, who would be teaching various categories in a family, i.e. parents, couples, young adults, adolescents, seniors, and singles.

PLENARY SPEAKERS

 

Lee Wee Min

Lee Wee MinWee Min is the Executive Chairman of Focus on the Family (FOTF) Malaysia, where he actively creates awareness on the family through media campaigns. He is also a sought-after speaker at churches and conferences in the Asia Pacific region and in the USA, on issues pertaining to families. He wears many hats, too. He is the Asia Regional Director for FOTF Global, a council member of Scripture Union and SUFES Campsite Development, member of the Board of Directors of Bkt Bintang Boys' Secondary School, member of the Board of Directors at the National Population and Family Development Board, Malaysia. He is married to Swee Choo and they have three children, Joel, Sarah and Sandra.

 

Ho Kien Keong

Ho Kien KeongA UK-trained architect, he is a partner of an architectural firm in Kuala Lumpur. He is passionate about building strong families and a firm believer in raising the next generation of believers to have a bold and courageous vision for the Kingdom of God. He is one of the Elders in FGA Kuala Lumpur, focusing on youth ministries and various other areas at the Oversight level. Ho is also a founding board member of Focus on the Family Malaysia. He is happily married to Ivy and they have four lovely children.

 

Andrea Wigglesworth

Andrea WigglesworthA trainer of Christian counsellors, Andrea has planted a federation of Christian counselling centres throughout Scotland. She now has six counselling centres in the United Kingdom. She also co-runs Vital Connexions, a counselling training organization, with Vicky McEvoy, with a vision to train Christian counsellors all over the world. Andrea travels widely to preach and encourage churches in many nations. She is married to Peter Wigglesworth.

 

Dorai Manikam

Dorai ManikamDorai is one of the Elders of FGA. He oversees Family Life, the Satellite Churches, Missions Department and the Leadership Development. He is a gifted teacher, an engaging preacher and is deeply passionate about family, missions and prayer. A Forest Engineer by training, he quit as a university lecturer to enter fulltime pastoral ministry in FGA in 1991. Dorai has since served as a board member of Sekolah Sri Sempurna, faculty member of Royal Priesthood Bible College, Regional Homefellowship Leader, pastoral staff, and Missions Director. Presently he concentrates mainly on teaching, training, discipling and mentoring of leaders and pastors. He is married to Lillian and they have three grown-up daughters.

 

WORKSHOP SPEAKERS

 

Benny Mun

Benny MunBenny is a licensed counsellor practising full-time in the Center for Psychological and Counseling Services. He is focused on disseminating information on mental health and has developed an Internet-based resource site based on mental health issues. He also supervises counselling students in the Masters programme and is involved in developing and facilitating the Peer Mentoring Programme for various departments in HELP University. He provides school-based counselling on a consultation basis and works with a wide audience including young people, adults, couples and families.

 

Charis Patrick

Charis PatrickA trainer, family life educator and resource speaker, Charis has clinical experience in counselling for more than a decade working with families. With her strong experience, she is a much sought after speaker and trainer by schools as well as corporate companies. She has regaled thousands with her practical and enriching insights into family life. As her passion is to help strengthen families, she is often interviewed by major papers and media on social and family issues. Charis is currently a columnist with The Star newspaper, writing on issues related to teens and tweens.

 

Dr Danny Martin

Dr Danny MartinDr Danny is President of Global Sharing in Avila Beach, California which trains Asian tentmakers and places them amongst unreached peoples. He also serves as ambassador-at-large for Tentmakers International (TI) and was previously owner of Careers by Design, a tentmaking business in Singapore that provided career counselling to young people. He was founder and president (now president emeritus) for Mission to Unreached Peoples of Asia and Eastern Europe. He has also worked with World Concern and World Relief in Asia.

 

Dr Herbert Tan

Dr Herbert TanDr Herbert has been in ministry since 1982, serving as a missionary and a pastor in South-East Asia and USA. He is currently Director of Family Ministries at Emmanuel Methodist Church in Petaling Jaya and teaches in adjunct capacities at various seminaries in Malaysia and the South East Asian region. He is also a member of the think tank for Wholesome Families in TRAC and is a family consultant with Family Life Malaysia. He is also Editorial Consultant for The Children’s Bible Explorer Series, a home-based Christian Education learning tool published by Pristine World. Herbert is married to Ling Ming and they have two children.

 

Lillian Dorai

Lillian DoraiLillian is a fulltime ministerial staff of FGA and heads Family Life. She is instrumental in the setup, planning and development, implementation and expansion of this thriving family ministry. She steered the establishment of the Family Life Centre, the church’s own counselling unit, and currently directs its operations. She also provides counselling services to clients. She has received training in couple counselling and various areas of critical incident stress management. She is married to Dorai Manikam, an Elder of the church, and they have three lovely daughters.

 

Márcio Batista

Marcio BatistaA therapist, leadership coach and trainer, Márcio is originally from Brazil and has worked overseas since 2005, which enabled him to develop skills and expertise in leadership within a unique transcultural and volunteer environment. He has organised and led various counselling, coaching and social work programmes in over 10 countries, including working with a broad spectrum of concerns in relationship difficulties, addiction, anxiety, depression, communication, personality patterns, low motivation, life transition and stress, grief as well as crisis of faith. He strongly believes in the importance of integrating spiritual and psychological aspects of individuals to achieve their full potential.

 

Martin & Dr Christina Lee

Martin & Dr Christina LeeMartin and Christina met in Sheffield during their university days where they were both serving at the Chinese Christian Church. They have been married for 21 years and have three children, They have been serving in FGA’s worship team since 1994 and host a home fellowship where Martin is also the leader. Martin is an architect and director of a medium-sized architectural practice while Christina is a chartered chemical engineer and currently a regional managing partner at an international consultancy firm.

 

Dr Ng Wai Sheng

Dr Ng Wai ShengDr Ng practises in Seremban, Kuala Lumpur and Klang, serving as a board member of Malaysian Care. A Fulbright alumni, she was previously a senior lecturer at a local institution, where she designed and spearheaded the first Master of Clinical Psychology programme among private institutions in Malaysia. Prior to that, she served in various settings including social services, inpatient and outpatient psychiatric settings. She worships at the Seremban Chinese Methodist Church, and was trained in spiritual companionship (Maranatha Retreat House).

 

Dr Paul Ng

Dr Paul NgAn obstetrician & gynaecologist and gynaecological oncologist practising in Kuala Lumpur, Dr Paul completed his specialist training in obstetrics and gynaecology in the UK and did his subspecialty training in gynaecological oncology in Singapore. He lectured in UKM and was an associate professor before going into private practice. He has been actively involved in undergraduate, postgraduate and public health education. He serves as a home fellowship leader in FGA.

 

Phua Ah Eng

Phua Ah EngAh Eng was senior assistant of a secondary school and loved working with young people, seeing beyond their academic achievements to realise the potential as well as character development of each youth. Since retirement, she has enhanced her skills in counselling and continues to be passionate about families and sees the great need to help couples grow in loving and strong marriages. She is involved with Focus on the Family and the National Association of Christian Counsellors as well as serving in her church with her husband who is an Elder of Petaling Jaya Gospel Hall.

 

Rev Tryphena Law

Rev Tryphena LawAn ordained minister with the Assemblies of God Malaysia, Rev Tryphena pursued her teacher’s training but left the profession to be involved in social work helping those who are needy and destitute for the past 11 years. She is a multilingual vibrant communicator and has vast experience in counselling young people especially in the area of sexual education. She is Executive Director of PLUC Events Sdn Bhd, a Christian organisation affiliated with Exodus Global Alliance. PLUC provides support for those with gender issues and her own journey out of gender identity insecurity has enabled her to speak with insight.

 

Vicky McEvoy

Vicky McEvoyBased in Dublin, Ireland, Vicky is the manager of a busy community counselling service, offering Christian counselling. She has been involved in counsellor training for more than 14 years, and is married to Rev John McEvoy, Director of the Elim Ministries in Ireland. Together with Andrea Wigglesworth, they run a counselling training organisation called Vital Connexions and have a vision to train Christian counsellors all over the world. As family-oriented persons, their workshops are experiential as well as helpful for people helpers and counsellors.

 

Yeo Pei Li

Yeo Pei LiA registered and licensed counsellor with the Malaysia Board of Counsellors, Pei Li currently practises at HELP University, Kin & Kids Marriage, Family and Child Therapy Centre and is a member of the counselling working team at FGA Family Life. She has developed several areas of specialty as counsellor over the past ten years, handling individual, couples and family issues, career guidance and counselling as well as counsellor education and supervision to address issues such as communication problems, conflict management, forgiveness and other everyday issues.
