Psalm 11 – Flee or Faith
(Written by Tan Yu Chai)
O Lord, where can I flee to in face of the danger of shooting arrows bent from the hand of wicked? Shall I flee to the mountain seeking an earthly protection? Yet such is not real protection. When faced with disaster, diseases, death or broken relationship and broken lives, sure, it feels as though the foundation has given way, yet this I called to mind.
The LORD is holy, enthroned in heaven and He alone is God and none other. In Your sovereignty, LORD You allowed all these calamities to test what is really in our heart, even the current global pandemic is used by You to test us. O Lord, none of us can ever be righteous, we are just worms. Yet it is in our Lord Jesus Christ that we have been clothed in His Righteousness, so that we can behold Your face. O what a mercy and what a grace!
Let’s Read Psalm 11;
1 In the Lord I take refuge.
How then can you say to me:
“Flee like a bird to your mountain.
2 For look, the wicked bend their bows;
they set their arrows against the strings
to shoot from the shadows
at the upright in heart.
3 When the foundations are being destroyed,
what can the righteous do?”
4 The Lord is in his holy temple;
the Lord is on his heavenly throne.
He observes everyone on earth;
his eyes examine them.
5 The Lord examines the righteous,
but the wicked, those who love violence,
he hates with a passion.
6 On the wicked he will rain
fiery coals and burning sulfur;
a scorching wind will be their lot.
7 For the Lord is righteous,
he loves justice;
the upright will see his face.
Let’s Pray,
Our Father, we ask not for You to take away our trials and testing, but in Your grace, we ask that You will give us our strength as our days shall be. Break us, mold us and change us so that through such testing, even when the wicked seems to triumph, we will learn obedience and trust in You so that when we are weak , we may be made strong in Christ. Help us to learn that each new day is a grace from You so that as we yield to You, Christ is formed in us more and more and all for Your glory, in Jesus’ name, Amen!
