Senior Pastor Prince Guneratnam preached recently at the Calvary Convention Centre (CCC) about the importance of opening our eyes so that we sin no more. Sin blinds the eyes of the beholder. There is a bright future awaiting those who love Him and who follow His ways, for God truly loves those who love Him!
Jesus did not come to earth just to perform miracles; everything He did was to ascertain that He came from God and that He was authentic. The purpose for His coming was to affirm the teachings and the purposes of the kingdom of God and to be our Saviour.
From the very beginning of time, we were all sinners and as sinners we could not understand the ways of God or what God would say to us because our sins separated us from Him. “No other man can save us because all man are sinners…When God wants to do a miracle in your life, He does that to help you understand and help others know who He is, His power, His grace, His glory and His love for you. ” said Prince.
“For the Son of man is come to save that which was lost.” (Matthew 18:11)
Sin puts you in Darkness
Do not walk in blindness but walk in the light! “When you are blind you live in darkness and that’s what sin is. Jesus came so that you might walk in the light” shared Prince. As told in the Bible, Jesus demonstrated His purpose by healing the blind man. This particular man was born blind and one of Jesus’ disciples asked him if this was due to this man’s sin or his parents, but Jesus’ told his disciple not to look for anyone to blame for sin has done this, and that is why Jesus’ had to come so that Gods work and mercy can be manifested. People are so quick to look for somebody to blame.
“Surely I was sinful at birth, sinful from the time my mother conceived me.” (Psalm 51:5)
“God doesn’t do bad things so that he can do something good to glorify Him, God doesn’t do that, sin does that!… He manifested His glory so that you may know that there is a God who loves you!” shared Prince in full conviction.
Every good and perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of the heavenly lights, who does not change like shifting shadows. (James 1:17)
We have to understand that living in sin and even holding on to unforgiveness can cause us to be blind to numerous things. We must not stay in that sinful state for there lays a curse. Follow God so that you may have everlasting life. Ultimately He wants us all to rid of our blindness and get out of that darkness so that we might have eyesight and understand the purpose of God in our lives!
“The natural person does not accept the things of the Spirit of God, for they are folly to him, and he is not able to understand them because they are spiritually discerned.” (1 Corinthians 2:14)
“Salvation needs to be discerned spiritually. You need to move out of self and into a realm called faith to receive salvation” said Prince. Your salvation doesn’t come by mans works, it comes by doing the works of God. If you want to see things happen in your life the only way is to move out of the natural and believe. Trust God for what He says! Do not be stubborn! You cannot live in the natural and stand in the realm of faith at the same time. It doesn’t work that way.
God can do anything He wants and no one can keep Him in a cage because He is too big to be boxed! He is able to work in numerous ways in your life that you cannot even begin to comprehend, God can even perform miracles in different ways so do not ever criticize what God does. “Don’t try to analyze, don’t try to naturalize, don’t try to reason, or use your human intellect to try to figure it out…. If God said so just do it! It takes faith to get saved, there’s no other way” said Prince.
“I must work the works of him that sent me, while it is day: the night cometh, when no man can work.” (John 9:4)
The Proof of our faith is Obedience
The right thing you need to do may cause you to be fearful and drawback, however God tells us to step out! Trust and believe that God can help you by saying, “God I can trust you with this and you can bring it to pass.” When God has saved you, you need to open your spiritual eyes so that you can see and understand God. “You whose eyes have been open must share the glory of God to those who need to know Jesus Christ as Lord and Saviour” shared Prince.
Close to the end of the sermon, Prince emphasized that every day is the Lords day but many forget the importance of the Sabbath Day. It is so that everyone sets aside a day for God. “You can’t earn the blessings of God, you have the blessing of God because He loves you” he said. His grace is extended to us.
“The man answered and said to them, “Why, this is a marvelous thing, that you do not know where He is from; yet He has opened my eyes! 31 Now we know that God does not hear sinners; but if anyone is a worshiper of God and does His will, He hears him. 32 Since the world began it has been unheard of that anyone opened the eyes of one who was born blind. 33 If this Man were not from God, He could do nothing.” (John 9:30-32)
