Kajang churches are doing something extra in addition to Easter Sunday Services this year. Organized once every two years, the Kajang’s Easter Prayer March expects about 1,000 participants at the Kajang Stadium, said Project Chairman Rev Peter Lai.
The idea started way back in 1996 by Rev Terrence K K Sinnadurai, Senior Pastor of the Kajang Assemblies of God and Rev Terrence’s intention was to unite all the churches in Kajang.
The Easter Sunday March was incorporated into Kajang Pastors’ Fellowship later when the fellowship was formed. Since then, the fellowship has been holding the event every year until 2009 when it was decided to make it a biennial affair because of the enormous work involved. Subsequently, there was an Easter March held in 2011.
“There is also a change this year. We used to call the event Easter March all these years but this year we have changed it to Easter Prayer March to reflect our purpose which is to pray,” Rev Lai said.
He explained that in the past Easter March was organized for the purpose of uniting the churches. However, this year the emphasis will be on prayer, particularly this year as it coincides with the forthcoming General Election. The theme for this year comes from 2 Chronicles 2:14:
14 If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land. (2 Chronicles 7:14, NKJV)
“We want everyone in Kajang to know that the churches are concern about Kajang town and that we as the body of Christ – regardless of different denominations – play an influential role in the community,” he said.
“Majlis Perbandaraan Kajang and the Police authority have given approvals for us to hold the event. They will be helping us. It is wonderful to note that we have four different language groups participating this year. They are the Tamil, Nepalese, Chinese and the English. We have 18 participating churches altogether.
“We have T-shirt specially made for the event and they are only selling at RM15 each. We hope to sell 1,000 T-Shirts.
“The green T-shirts symbolizes “health and growth” as we ask God to heal our land. So if you are in Kajang area, please join us,” said Rev Lai.
