The plight of the homeless people living on the streets of Kuala Lumpur is one that is filled with stories of rejection and poverty that fill the lives of the destitute.
It is also a harvest field that is ripe for the gospel. This was why HOPE Street Ministry was formed in 2012, under the purview of One Voice Ministries to bring the transforming power of the gospel to the lives who need it.
After operating for 2 years on the streets of Kuala Lumpur, in 2014, we moved to a rented premises for the sole purpose of ministering to the homeless in a more personal way.
It is more than just a feeding program or a soup kitchen. It is about preaching the gospel and leading people to the source of all transformation, Jesus Christ.
We firmly believe what the bible teaches in John 10:10, that abundant life is the portion of those who receive Jesus as their personal Lord and Saviour. The thief, which is the devil our adversary only comes to steal, kill and destroy.
The ministry is headed by Veronica Louis, whose passion is to see hope comes into the lives of the hopeless.
Christmas is one of those times that presents us with an opportunity to extend God’s love to the homeless people that God so loves.
Christmas is a time to share with the world the greatest story ever told, the birth of Jesus Christ!
With HOPE Street Ministry, it was no different. This year, we were blessed to have a team from Grace Baptist Church KL (GBCKL), under the leadership of Pastor Wai Chee Kiat to serve with us.
We prepared a program filled with the message of joy and happiness in Jesus. The day began with everyone lifting their voices and praising God in worship led by Pastor Jacquie Ryan.
It was a sight to behold as people lifted up their hearts and voices in praise and glory to the Lord. Suddenly the place was filled with a joy that was unspeakable! It was the spirit of God at work.
Veronica then shared the Word on 2 Tim.1:7, which read, “For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power, love and a sound mind”.
She shared about her life testimony on how Jesus delivered her from her past life to a glorious new life filled with hope in Him.
The meaning of Emmanuel is God with us. For Veronica, Jesus came to her when she was at the lowest point in her life and gave her hope to continue living this time for His Glory!
The result of hearing her story was that during the altar call, many who were present came up to be ministered to. All glory to God!
We then distributed the food that was prepared for them, during which time, all were entertained by Christmas carols sung by the team from GBC, KL.
The same joy that came upon the shepherds at the birth of Jesus was so evident in the atmosphere.
We were also blessed to have Bobo and Bibi the clowns to come and be part of the celebration. With their brand of humour and fun, they introduced the greatest gift that one could have at Christmas; that is Jesus Christ.
Mimi Asmida, our scholarship student at Bible College of Malaysia, who hails from our Orang Asli church on Pahang, then took over with the help of Veronica to get those present involved in various games.
Through the help and donations from many well-wishers, we were able to put together many gifts to bless our street friends.
Each of the 40 people who were present received a personal gift as well! All in all, it was a day of seeing the name of Jesus being manifested and to show that He is the Saviour of the World.
At HOPE Street Ministry, we are always looking for volunteers and teams to assist us and to serve.
It is a great opportunity to reach out and experience ministering to the homeless people. For more information on how you can get involved, visit our website at www.onevm.net or email us at hopestreet@onevm.net
