The Word This Week – YOUR PAST DOES NOT DETERMINE YOUR FUTURE

“I know the plans I have for you..” (Jeremiah 29:11)

SOME OF YOU LIKE TO SAY MY PARENTS HAD IT SO I HAVE INHERITED IT. SUCH A STATEMENT IS ABSOLUTELY NOT FROM GOD. IT’S  A DECEPTIVE LIE OF THE DEVIL. IF YOU ARE SPEAKING LIKE THAT I AM AFRAID YOU ARE NOT SURE OF YOUR IDENTITY IN CHRIST. YOU ARE SIMPLY EMPOWERING THE DEVIL WHO IS CONDEMNING YOU TO CONCLUDE YOUR LIFE.

HERE IS A VERY IMPORTANT AREA I WANT YOU TO UNDERSTAND

There are some battles our parents have not finished fighting and we have unconsciously carried it forward into our generation. This is unfortunately a generational curse that should have been dealt with and broken by the bloodline of our lord Jesus.

Don’t let whatever that has happened in the past, the mistakes of your past, the mistakes of your parents, no matter how embarrassing or ugly it may seem to you to be carried forward to destroy your future.

Are you going to be a victim of slavery for the rest of your life?  Are you going to be victim of idolatry for the rest of your life? Are you going to be a victim of drugs?? Are you going to be a victim of some bad behavior pattern, your parents were fighting to overcome? How long? God is asking how long are you going to stay in this place when I have buried it under the blood of My son.

Jesus said,

I give you power over all the power of the enemy” (Luke 10:19)

WHAT WAS THE PROBLEM WITH ISRAEL?

If you are separated from the people you don’t go about envying the people you have been separated from. Egypt was a form of satanic bondage for the Isralites. What was the problem of Israel? The problem of Israel was that they kept envying the life they have left behind in Egypt.  Can you imagine they wanted to go back into slavery, back to Egypt? After seeing all the goodness of God, what God has done for them liberating them from the bondage of slavery. Getting them through the Red Sea, providing for their needs in the wilderness. Within a short time they became ungrateful and rebellious.

Apparently the slave mentality had a very strong root in view of the idolatry that was attached to it, that spirit was always drawing them back. They were not able to see the blessing of God. The reason why God was frustrated with them was they always wanted to envy the old life of slavery and idolatry. That made God became so sick that He disqualified them from entering the Promised Land. Thus they lost their inheritance and the goodness of God.

EVERYBODY HAS A PAST IN OUR LIVES. TELL ME WHO DOESN’T HAVE A PAST?

God is saying this morning: Why do you keep returning to your past, something which I have already dealt with and delivered you from long time ago? God is asking you how long are going to mourn and groan in such a situation. Why are you trying to bring to life the things that are already buried behind you?

YOUR PAST WILL DESTROY YOU IF YOU DON”T BURY IT AND LET IT DIE

Do you know that it’s so easy to be hindered and crippled by the memories of the things that have happened in your past? I don’t know how many people today are enslaved and paralyzed by their past. Why are you tripping behind into all that has happened in the past?

It is an undeniable fact that many unthinkable and ugly things had happened in your past. So what? It may be a breakdown of a relationship. It may be a sudden death of a loved one. It may be a disappointment in your life. It may be an opportunity you had missed. It may be somebody walking out of your life. It may be a rejection. It may even be an ugly immoral encounter that has taken place in your past. Listen to me! YOUR FUTURE IS NOT IN YOUR PAST. Resolve it, accept it and let them go and move forward.

HOW YOU RESPOND TO YOUR PAST FAILURES WILL DETERMINE YOUR FUTURE

Hebrews 12:1 says,

“Let us throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles, and let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us.”

The strategy of the enemy is to keep reminding us of our past, because if he can do that, he can succeed in destroying you and prevent you from walking in the blessings of God.

Therefore, past decisions, past mistakes and past hurts if allowed to dwell upon will paralyze you from moving forward in the purposes of God in your life.  You know what? There is a power, that the enemy holds over your past that needs to be broken and buried away otherwise it will hunt you for the rest of your life.

Sometimes it’s hard to notice God’s hand working on our behalf especially when we are going through a period of turmoil in our lives. Nevertheless, the Bible states clearly, God has plans to always prosper us and not to harm us, but instead to give us a hope and a future! (Jeremiah 29:11)

HE IS THE AUTHOR AND FINISHER OF OUR FAITH.

You know what? You will be shocked to learn, nothing that you are facing this moment takes God by surprise. He is indeed an omnipotent God who knows all things.

“He is before all things and in Him all things consist and in all things He may have the preeminence.” (Col 1:17-18)

God is in absolute control of everything you are going through in your life.

He is in your problem! He is in your troubles! He is everywhere! When God has chosen you with a destiny, you bet He will do whatever it takes to get you there!

Hebrews 12:2

God is the author and finisher of our faith; set down at the right hand of the throne of God. (right hand of God interceding for you and me Rom 8:34)

GOD IS TOO BIG. HIS WAYS AND THOUGHTS ARE TOTALLY DIFFERENT.

You know what? He put Moses at the backside of the desert and left him there for 40 years and broke him down until he was fit to move on with God. God sometimes will leave us in the wilderness to form His character until we grow to match the assignment that He places upon us.

LET GO AND LET GOD TAKE OVER

No matter what the crisis you are facing today, God can take over that problem if only you could let go and allow Him to deal with it. He said; “cast all your cares upon me for I care for you.” (1 Peter 5:6,7)

What the devil has meant for harm God can take it and transform it for good in your life. He can take your pain and hurts and fears and turn them into greater strength and unshakable faith. Are you astonished as to what God can do in your life? God always has a plan to bless you all the time! So keep trusting Him, hang on to His promises. He is a faithful God! He will never fail you nor forsake you. In His time He makes all things beautiful.
