Receiving New Year messages or wishes on the social media is not something new to most of us. After checking through all the New Year messages on my mobile phone, there was this one message that I received from a friend that really led me into deep thought.

Life is like a journey on a train with its stations, with its changes of routes, and with its accidents! We board on this train when we were born, and our parents are the ones who got us tickets. For all this while, we believe that they will always travel on this train with us. However, whether you like it or not, at some station, our parents will get off the train, leaving us alone in this journey.

As time goes by, other passengers will board the train, many of whom will be significant; they could be our siblings, our friends, our children, and even the love of our life. Yet, many will get off during the journey and leave a permanent vacuum in our lives. Many will go so unnoticed that we won’t even know when they vacated their seats and got off the train!

Many times, there are people in our life that we take them for granted without us realizing it, simply because they are there and will always be there when we need them. Our parents, perhaps. Even friends or siblings. But stop and think for a moment! When was the last time you hug your family member? When was the last time you really listen and care for your friend when they answer your “How are you?”

Well, this train ride will be full of joy, sorrow, expectations, hello’s, good-bye’s, and farewells. A good journey is helping, loving, and having a good relationship with all the co-passengers. Also, it is to make sure that we give our best to make their journey comfortable.

What’s the mystery of this fabulous journey? That is… will this be our final station? None of us know at which station we ourselves will be getting off. So, we should live our life to the fullest.

“Forgetting those things which are behind and reaching forward to those things which are ahead, and press toward the goal for the prize of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus” (Philippians 3:13-14).

Ask yourself when the time comes for us to leave our seat, what will you leave behind for those who are still on this train ride? We should leave behind beautiful memories and legacy for those who will continue to travel on this train of life.

This is a new beginning, which means that the old has ended. I believed that a lot of us are expecting a new beginning in our life from time to time. This is because a new beginning brings us a new hope. As another year has just begun, will this New Year really be a new start for your life? Or did you just unconsciously bring along hurts, fears, resentment, regrets, etc from the past into this New Year?

In this New Year, don’t miss all the goodness in your life again. Care for the people around you, do everything with passion, love what you are doing, cherish and manage the relationship of all the co-passengers who are on board with you on this train of life with love!
