Overcome the Fear of Making Mistakes and Live Boldly!

Most of us know of someone who has accomplished something great in life, and most of us wish to accomplish something meaningful and great during our years on Earth. However, many of us fail to realize that there are risks that need to be taken in order to get to where the great men and women have gone. While the Lord desires for each one of us to experience a life that is bold, fulfilling and reliant on Him, we will miss it if we live in the fear of making mistakes.

Hockey player Wayne Gretzky said “You’ll always miss 100 percent of the shots you never take.” While God has sent His Holy Spirit to us to lead, guide and give us direction in life, the Holy Spirit is still unable to lead us anywhere if we are not willing to follow! While there is nothing wrong with having structure in our lives, we need to learn to follow the Holy Spirit’s guidance if we want to live the life that God has planned for us. To live boldly does not mean to live recklessly – listen to what God is asking you to do.

Often times, we are plagued with thoughts such as ‘What if I do what God tells me to do and I find that I don’t like it?’ or ‘What will happen if I step out in faith?’ and ‘What if I’m not hearing God right?’ The ‘what-if’s’ can become the very thing that prevent us from living the life that God wants us to live. Our destiny will not just fall into our laps. Instead, we need to reach out and take it as there will be obstacles in the way. Let’s face it – the enemy definitely does not want us to live the life that God has in store for us.

Isaiah 30:21 says ‘Your Ears shall hear a word behind you, saying, “this is the way, walk in it,” Whenever you turn to the right had or whenever you turn to the left.’ We can trust that the Holy Spirit will show us the way, especially when we ask, and when we are willing to listen and obey. And even if we miss His leading, we need not worry as when we commit out lives to him, He will always help us to get back on track.

Many of us know that God has called and is calling us to do something, whether it is in the marketplace, or in the ministry. And many of us do not have the courage to do what God has called us to do. We are afraid of what might happen in the future, and we are afraid of making mistakes. We may also have become dependent on our selves, and worry about how God will provide for us if we do what He asks of us. We fear many things, and we sometimes forget that God is bigger than all the problems that we will ever face.

Remember Jeremiah 29:11, ‘For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, says the Lord, thoughts of peace and not of evil, to give you a future and a hope’. Be encouraged that you can trust God and live boldly. Follow the Holy Spirit’s promptings, and step out in faith into new things. And as you do, you will find that God indeed has a life changing journey for you!
