The Power of Your Declaration

12 May 2014 by Natasha Kim CM-

Elder Shao Hen preached about the power of our declarations at City Harvest Church, Kuala Lumpur, on the 27th of April 2014. He began his sermon with the Bible verse below according to Matthew 8:5-13. According to the verse, the centurion understood authority and knew that Jesus had the power to heal. “This army leader who was not a Christian understood the kingdom principle more than most Christians do, that God’s power is activated by the Word!” shared Shao Hen. The centurion’s faith impressed Jesus! Faith and the power of declaration has been and will always be the piece of the puzzle that we need to push our everyday living.

When Jesus had entered Capernaum, a centurion came to him, asking for help. “Lord,” he said, “my servant lies at home paralyzed, suffering terribly.”

Jesus said to him, “Shall I come and heal him?”

The centurion replied, “Lord, I do not deserve to have you come under my roof. But just say the word, and my servant will be healed. For I myself am a man under authority, with soldiers under me. I tell this one, ‘Go,’ and he goes; and that one, ‘Come,’ and he comes. I say to my servant, ‘Do this,’ and he does it.”

10 When Jesus heard this, he was amazed and said to those following him, “Truly I tell you, I have not found anyone in Israel with such great faith11 I say to you that many will come from the east and the west, and will take their places at the feast with Abraham, Isaac and Jacob in the kingdom of heaven. 12 But the subjects of the kingdom will be thrown outside, into the darkness, where there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth.”

13 Then Jesus said to the centurion, “Go! Let it be done just as you believed it would.” And his servant was healed at that moment. (Matthew 8:5-13)

“I grew up in a Christian background. When we want to do something we ask, ‘Is this the will of God?’ To me the will of God is very important and everyone should live by the will of God but to me the will of God is, ‘Are you living your life by faith?’” shared Shao Hen. If you are living your life by faith, then you are living by the will of God. Sometimes we are so preoccupied in finding the will of God in our lives that we allow our lives to pass us by. Therefore, ask yourself, “Am I living by faith in all that I do? Or Am I living in my comfort zone?” A very important truth is that for everything you want in your life, you need to declare it! The simple fact of “when you believe it, you will see” will set you free and will usher you to your next level of faith.

In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was GodHe was with God in the beginning. Through him all things were made; without him nothing was made that has been made. In him was life, and that life was the light of all mankind. (John 1:1-4)

“That’s how living by faith is, if I want something, I need to declare it, I need to say it,” he shared. Our words are powerful and our world is sustained by the Word of God, which formed the whole universe. “Your life is governed by your words. Your life is being framed, joined and mended together by the words you speak. So, your relationships are formed by your words, your career is formed by your words, your family is formed by your words, and your future is formed by your words!” said Shao Hen. Our everyday life is formed by our words! “Everything happens or does not happen, by your spoken word,” he shared. Shao Hen then began to go further into the matter by explaining about how we also need to expand our boundaries in life in order to move into our next step.

We cannot grow if we remain in our own boundaries. For example, you might be in a “straight B territory” where you don’t need to work so hard in school to achieve B’s in your exams. In order to expand into the “straight-A’s category,” you need to study more, or listen more. “From straight-B’s to straight-A’s, there’s a battle to be fought,” he said. Once you fought that battle and won, then you have managed to build a new territory around you. In the process of bettering yourself however, the devil will try to take you down at all cost and will try to tell you that you can’t achieve it, because he doesn’t want you to become better; because when you achieve more, you can do more for Christ. Declare yourself into success today in whatever area in life you want to achieve and bring yourself to that next level of faith with God.

The Son is the radiance of God’s glory and the exact representation of his being, sustaining all things by his powerful word. After he had provided purification for sins, he sat down at the right hand of the Majesty in heaven. (Hebrews 1:3)

I appeal to you, brothers and sisters, in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, that all of you agree with one another in what you say and that there be no divisions among you, but that you be perfectly united in mind and thought.

(1 Corinthians 1:10)

The Lord had said to Abram, “Go from your country, your people and your father’s household to the land I will show you.

“I will make you into a great nation,

and I will bless you;

I will make your name great,

and you will be a blessing.

I will bless those who bless you,

and whoever curses you I will curse;

and all peoples on earth

will be blessed through you.” (Genesis 12:1-3)
