VICTORY IN JESUS
As believers, we have been saved, and set free. However, most, if not all of us, still struggle with sin. We keep asking God for forgiveness, but keep having the same problem. Time and again we ask for forgiveness, each time repenting of what we have done, but yet repeating the same sin again and again. And we ask ourselves how in the world we will ever be able to overcome it.
YOU ARE NOT ALONE
You’re not alone. Even the Apostle Paul once faced such a dilemma. In Romans 7:18-19, Paul said ‘For I know that in me (that is, in my flesh) nothing good dwells; for to will is present with me, but how to perform what is good I do not find. For the good that I will to do, I do not do; but the evil I will not to do, that I practice”.
And in Romans 7:24-25, Paul asks the same question that many of us ask “O wretched man that I am! Who will deliver me from this body of death? I thank God – through Jesus Christ our Lord!” Paul found his deliverance in Christ Jesus, and so will we, if we turn to Jesus.
ABIDE IN CHRIST JESUS
The key to victory in overcoming our sinful habits is to abide in Jesus and having His Word abide in you. In one of the last conversations Jesus had with His disciples before His crucifixion, He spoke to them about abiding in Him. He promised them if they could continue to abide in Him and allow His Words to remain in them, they could have whatever they asked. God’s word has the power to overcome sin. Thus, we need to make an intentional decision to get His Word inside us to empower us to overcome sin in our lives. John 8:31-32 say, “Then Jesus said to those Jews who believed Him, “If you abide in My word, you are My disciples indeed. And you shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free.”
31 Then Jesus said to those Jews who believed Him, “If you abide in My word, you are My disciples indeed. 32 And you shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free.”
Give priority to God’s Word, and make a decision to spend time in it, as well as act on it. As we spend time in it, it will take root in our hearts, and we will be able to break free from sinful habits that are hindering us from being the person God wants us to be.

Thank you for sharing that abiding in the Word is essential for victory over sin in our lives. The Christian walk is a moment-by-moment experience whereby we choose whether to serve the spirit or flesh. It is not a ‘once and for all’ experience of victory.
