What’s in your hand?

On 24th of October, Joshua Lee founder and program director of the non-profit organization StART Society1 shared in the FGB PJ Atria Chapter on how the tugging of his heart compelled him to bring one of the most sought-after speakers in the world, Nick Vujicic —a man with no arms, no legs, and no limitations—to Malaysia.

Joshua met Nick Vujicic for the first time in Sunway College University where Nick spoke to 4000 college students in the auditorium. At the end of his speech, Nick asked the students to close their eyes and asked, “How many of you have thought about suicide for the last six months?” Six hands rose up and two hands remained for those who attempted suicide in the past three months.

Witnessing the grim situation, Nick confessed his heart cry to reach the schools in Malaysia to bring hope. Joshua felt that the Lord was pulling his heartstring to bring Nick back to Malaysia! Hence, he wrote to the organizer with words, “I am the man who will bring him in and proliferate his message to all schools.”

However, the organizer could not divulge Nick’s information. Thinking it was the act of his flesh, Joshua placed his plan on the backburner until he met an old friend who connected him to Nick’s agent. The contact was successful but Nick’s schedule was so tight that he typically had to do 300 rejections per week, and Joshua’s invitation was one of them.

On that week, Nick was scheduled to speak in Brunei but the trip was cancelled; Nick decided to head to Malaysia by his favor! But Joshua still faced one roadblock, which was paying for Nick’s speaking engagement fee. Because StART is not a church, it does not enjoy the much lower price of the fee.

But Joshua did not give up; he wrote back to Nick saying if he could provide Nick accommodation, transportation, and media during Nick’s visit in Malaysia for a lesser fee, to which Nick agreed! And because of that, Joshua became the accidental host to Nick, having the privilege to fellowship with him. In Joshua’s financial deficiencies, God’s strength is shown.

The secular media was also ecstatic with Nick’s arrival. Not only the Christian community was blessed, but also a family who drove down from Kuala Terengganu to meet Nick with their daughter of similar condition. Even the Ministry of Women, Family, and Community Development wants Nick to come back to Malaysia. And God-willing, Nick might return as early as May next year or in year 2015 for the National Achievers Conference.

Such is how God use Joshua ‘s two fish and five loaves of bread to bring Nick Vujicic into Malaysia, which brought hope to the hearts of many. All God requires is a willing heart in bringing God’s Kingdom through our work.
