For more than a decade, the Global Leadership Summit (GLS) has been in the forefront of leadership training, development, and discipleship for Christian leaders in our nation. Organised and hosted by the Global Leadership Network (GLN), the summit brings together world-class mentors and local aspiring leaders into one network with a broad impact.
The Global Leadership Network and GLS
Isaac Alfred, the English Premier Coordinator for GLN Malaysia shares an overview of the ministry as well as its mission and goal; “We are a non-profit ministry that seeks to build up the Church of Malaysia through leadership development. Our main area of focus is to raise up leaders around Malaysia and the world – to see them inspired and equipped, so that they can lead transformation in their communities and around the world.”
“In Malaysia, our mission goes beyond events with resources available year-round, and programmes that inspire, equip, and connect pastors, church and business leaders, the next generation, the marginalized, and community leaders. Our grander vision is to see the Bahasa Malaysia church being strengthened as we believe a strong Bahasa Malaysia church is a strong Malaysian church.”
Lineup of Events for GLS Malaysia 2024
The Global Leadership Summit (GLS) is the signature event for GLN. It’s an annual gathering that brings ministry and marketplace expertise together. Dynamic speakers and key topics challenge participants to grow and become a catalyst for change. The GLS content has been translated into as many as 60+ languages, reaching almost 130 countries and impacting more than one million people around the world, making it the longest-running, greatest-reaching leadership development of its kind! Isaac shared that the upcoming Global Leadership Summit for Malaysians will be held at the end of January this year and will have about 600 Church and Christian Ministry Leaders in attendance.
Gain Leadership Insights from World-Class Speakers and Thought Leaders
With the partnership of industry-leading experts representing ministry and marketplace, the GLS Malaysia 2024 is anticipated to fuel inspiration, recharge our vision, and trigger intentional action to never stop learning! Just to name a few of the speakers this summit includes:
- Pastor Craig Groeschel, co-founder of Life Church, who will be equipping us on how to build Trust in our teams and organisations;
- James Clear, author of the #1 New York Times bestseller Atomic Habits, who will teach us tools for effective habit formation;
- Condoleezza Rice, 66th Secretary of State in USA, who will share her Christ-led experiences in international diplomacy;
- Pastor Jeanne Stevens, Lead Pastor of Soul City Church, who invites us to take a moment amidst the ever-conflicting priorities of modern-day ministry, and helps us discover God’s will in the now, and
- Danny Kim, who rocketed from his parents’ garage to tech stardom. Danny will be flying in from the USA to speak to us live about the marriage of faith and innovation.
“These are only some of the speakers we have lined up,” Isaac imparted. “There are many more stellar speakers! Do check out our website for the full list of speakers, their profiles, and session topics: https://glnmalaysia.org/gls24engprem/”
Interactive workshops covering an array of topics relevant to these times, which aims to equip Malaysian Church and Ministry Leaders with tools to be effective in life and ministry.
GLN Malaysia has also prepared their ministry-changing workshops that will equip Christian leaders to be more relevant and effective. Participants will have the opportunity to get up close and interact with seasoned thought leaders in the fields of:
- Creation care, ESG and the role of the Church
- Leveraging AI for productivity in ministry
- Building Resilience in Christian Leadership
- Discipling Generation Z and Generation Alpha in Minecraft
- Faith-driven Entrepreneurship
- Discerning truth in this age of misinformation and disinformation
- Digital media and communication for churches and ministries with limited resources, and more!
Isaac shared that GLN Malaysia’s website will contain the finalised list of workshops and workshop speakers. “However, just to name a few – Henry Kaestner will speak on Faith driven entrepreneurship, YB Michelle Ng and Calvin Yii will lead a workshop on Christianity & Politics, and Peter Harris (co-founder of A Rocha) will share on Creation Care & the role of the Church etc.”
Networking and community building amongst Malaysian Church Leaders
As mentioned, besides coming to listen from the speakers and thought leaders and the hands-on learning through the workshop, one of the main goals of the GLS is to be a networking and community building space. GLN Malaysia has invited about 20 ministries to set up booths to connect with Christian leaders across Malaysia with an aim to encourage other leaders as they share first-hand accounts of God’s work in the front lines of different segments of Malaysian society. Some of these booths are: World Vision, CBN Malaysia, Wawasan Penabur, Focus on the Family, Fellowship of Christian Athletes, Youth With A Mission, Malaysia Care, Resource Global, Scripture Union, Our Daily Bread and more.
Launch of the Malaysian Resilience Church Leaders Survey
Isaac revealed that in a recent Resilient Pastors survey conducted by Barna Group amongst Protestant senior pastors in the US from 2015 to 2022, some rather concerning findings were reported: 42% of pastors gave serious consideration to quitting being in full-time ministry in the past year, out of which 56% cited “the immense stress of the job” as a huge factor behind their thinking, and 43% saying they feel “lonely and isolated”. “Our desire is for Malaysian Christian leaders to be whole, healthy and ready to lead in fruitful and sustainable ministry for the coming decades,” he expressed.
In collaboration with Barna and World Vision Malaysia, GLN Malaysia will be launching the Resilience Church Leaders Initiative at the GLS, starting with the Malaysia Resilience Church Leaders survey and followed by a workshop in the afternoon which focuses on this issue. The workshop will be a great platform for Malaysia Church Leaders to share their experiences and challenges and take the first step to building resilience in their leadership journey.
The Global Leadership Summit, here in Malaysia
A core belief at the GLN is that everyone wins when leadership gets better. “When we say, Lead Where You Are, we hope you can leverage your influence in the setting that you are in to be a catalyst for positive change,” Isaac conveyed. “Imagine Christian Leaders across Malaysia inspired & equipped in their leadership effectiveness, reaching more for Jesus. We invite you to be part of this two-day transformative summit that will take your leadership ability to new heights!”
This year’s Global Leadership Summit Malaysia will be held over two full days (from 9am to 5pm) on the 25th and 26th of January (Thursday & Friday) at the Petaling Jaya Evangelical Free Church (PJEFC) near Jaya One. Designed to be an extraordinary experience with visionary speakers, the summit will unlock the secrets of success and offer real-world insights to conquer the dynamic landscape.
Participants will be immersed in leading-edge sessions covering innovation, teamwork, and leadership agility, leaving each one armed with actionable knowledge. More than just an event, the GLS is a golden opportunity to network with leading professionals who are rooted in faith and wisdom, forging connections that propel leaders to new heights.
Speaking about the connections formed through the GLS, Isaac shared, “The GLS is a rare opportunity for us as Christian leaders to engage in deep discussions, refine their leadership skills, and overcome challenges, while being captivated by testimonies of resilience that ignite passion and equip us – it is where faith meets actions with practical steps“.
