New Life, Puchong recently had their watch night service on the 31st of December and stayed on to welcome the year 2014 until the wee hours of night. They celebrated it with singing and dancing, good food, photo-booth sessions, sharing, and fellowship.
Sister Loo Ann shared that the theme for the night was to dress like a “Star”. They wanted to encourage everyone to dress up and most importantly, they wanted the youths to join them instead of going elsewhere for the New Year’s Eve. When talking about their yearly church’s plan, Loo Ann shared that it is important that we follow God’s way to success and accomplishment. No doubt there are many ways one can find success. However, God’s way is most fulfilling.
Only be strong and very courageous, being careful to do according to all the law that Moses my servant commanded you. Do not turn from it to the right hand or to the left, that you may have good success wherever you go. 8 This Book of the Law shall not depart from your mouth, but you shall meditate on it day and night, so that you may be careful to do according to all that is written in it. For then you will make your way prosperous, and then you will have good success. 9 Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be frightened, and do not be dismayed, for the Lord your God is with you wherever you go.” (Joshua 1:7-9)
It takes courage to do it the Right Way!
Everybody wants success in their lives. According to the Bible verse above, God has plans to give everyone good success, and to prosper them. People often wonder how non-believers obtain their success; Loo Ann shared that God created every person and gave each his or her specific gifting’s, “Some people have more than one gift but every one of us have at least one gift. We all have something we are good at; you just have to find what that gift is in order to find success.” This means that everyone can find success but not necessarily good success. “There are many businessmen out there who did not receive good education. They however, found the gift that God has given them and maximized the potential of that gift!” said Loo Ann.
I know the plans I have in mind for you, declares the Lord; they are plans for peace, not disaster, to give you a future filled with hope. (Jeremiah 29:11)
Each one of us has something in us that makes us a winner and that is why we are always encouraged to work on our talents once we find them. Do not let them slip away just because you are afraid to use them and pursue them! Have enough faith to go into something new. “Take courage knowing that God is good and that God will support us,” she said. Loo Ann and her family had previously taken a leap of faith in going into a business that might have not worked out, but because of the faith that they had in God, that business bloomed into something good. “It took courage! Not of our own, but we took courage knowing that God is good, that He is behind us and that He will support us!” she said.
The LORD will make you the head, not the tail. If you pay attention to the commands of the LORD your God that I give you this day and carefully follow them, you will always be at the top, never at the bottom. (Deuteronomy 28:13)
This experience in her and her family’s life had brought them up to serve God more! “We have been blessed in ways that we could never imagine,” she said. It’s amazing how God works in each of our lives, when we do things His way in every aspect, whether in school, in work or in relationships. “When God says to do something a particular way, God has a reason, God has a purpose and God will back you up,” she shared. Something just as simple as following the Word by keeping your Sunday’s holy and giving God your time will flood blessings your way if you are sincere. It takes courage to do things differently from everyone else. We have to remember to obey the commands of the Lord and to meditate on it day and night in order to gain that insight for our lives.
Your word is a lamp before my feet and a light for my journey. (Psalm 119: 105)
Reading the Word of God means nothing if it has not moved from your head to your heart! When that happens, you will know it because you will have the conviction that it is your call to action. If you have not followed His way all this time, know that the Lord is gracious and He is giving you a chance to redeem yourself from your ways. If that is you, take hold of that second chance!
"Don't misunderstand why I have come. I did not come to abolish the law of Moses or the writings of the prophets. No, I came to accomplish their purpose.” (Matthew 5:17)
