Spiritual Elevation – Kg Kuap youth meeting

14 March 2013 by Donna Uning CM –

It was before 8 pm and the drive into Kampung Kuap seemed never ending with the absence of streetlights. Located about 10 minutes off the highway, St. James Church stood on top of the hill where a familiar face waited for our arrival to the church.

My first impression was, ‘It’s a wooden house!” The parking space looked bumpy but we managed to coast into it. I was bringing the visiting Pastor from Nigeria to the church, and we were already late.

The youths from St. James, Kg Kuap.

The rustic hall or Old Church, next to the main church was filled to the brim with young people, ready for the word, ready for fire. The praise and worship started as soon as we entered. The praising, singing and dancing caused the floors to vibrate. It was awesome!

“I’m so encouraged by your worship,” Ps Gbenga Kotila said to the youths of St. James Church, Kampung Kuap. “The floodgates are going to open. Open your hearts,” he said, “The river is going to flow tonight.”

Jesus says in John 7:37, “If anyone is thirsty, let him come to me and drink.”

Have you ever been to a football game? The side that shouts is the one winning and the quiet side is the one losing. The winning side is the shouting side, he explained. Winners are shouters.

Isaiah 61:1-3 says, “The Spirit of the Sovereign Lord is upon me, because the Lord has anointed me …” and Acts 19: 1-6 tells of Paul baptizing some disciples with the Holy Spirit.

“The Lord is here tonight. You will experience spiritual elevation,” he said. John 9:4 says, “As long as it is day, we must do the work of him who sent me. Night is coming, when no one can work.”

We need to do His work. To do the things of God, you need the precept of Christ. God is rigid; He did not exempt Jesus from fasting. He loves to do the works of the Father. At 30 when He was about to start His ministry, He went to John’s baptism. He prayed and the heavens open, the Holy Spirit came down as a dove. Then He was led into the wilderness to be tempted.

“What enables us to do the work of God is the Spirit of God. Jesus said greater works than these you shall do because I go to the Father. If I do not go, the Holy Spirit does not come,” he explained saying that Jesus wants us to “join in the work; you need the Holy Spirit to empower you.” How can you do your work with the absence of the Holy Spirit?

The spirit of the church is the Holy Ghost. God is looking for whom to use. He is seeking for a man; somebody needs to step out tonight.

Isaiah 6:8 says, “Then I heard the voice of the Lord saying, ‘Whom shall I send? And who will go for us?’ And I said, ‘Here am I. Send me!’”

“The Lord will send you by releasing the Spirit upon you. You are fearful because you don’t allow the person of the Holy Spirit. God did not give you the spirit of fear.

Rev Gbenga Kotila praying with the youths.

“When the Holy Spirit comes upon you, He comes in power. Your life will change,” Ps Gbenga said.

Hebrews 6:12 says, “For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms.”

The devil is roaring around. When you receive the power, you need to tell the devil, ‘No Parking, Holy Ghost Zone,’ he added, because you put on the whole armor of God.

“We are raised to pull down strongholds. You need to rise up today with the Spirit of the Lord,

Isaiah 61 says prophetically, “The Spirit of the Lord is upon me,” and in Luke 4:18, “The Spirit of the Lord is on me…”.

You don’t have the Holy Spirit and do nothing. People that have the Holy Spirit do something! The Spirit is not going to be in you and stay quiet. There is something you must do. When the power is upon you, you will move. You will be going around doing good.

Acts 10:38, “God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Spirit and power, and how he went around doing good and healing all who were under the power of the devil, because God was with him.”

Mark 16:17, “And these signs will accompany those who believe: In my name they will drive out demons; they will speak in new tongues.”

“God can use you. There’s a generation coming out of this place better than the Bario revival. You will do great and mighty things. The army that God is raising is the youths in Sarawak. Whatever it is that God can do to any man, He can do to you,” he called.

“I see you pray for the sick, touching the eyes of the blind. Open your heart to God. He’s a gentle spirit, but He does great things. He will heal the broken hearted, the blind … Will you say, here I am. Send me?” he asked.

Prayer time.

The Spirit of the Lord is here, open your hearts and invite Him. The infilling of the Holy Spirit is the speaking in tongues. God can use you. You need to remember the Holy Spirit and you need to follow a holy life, he said.

“The Spirit of the Lord is willing to come upon us,” he continued telling about Peter, who was knocking at the door while everyone was still praying. Ps Gbenga also told how he preached his first crusade five months after he gave his life to Christ.

That same power is alive today. God can use anybody, whether you’re old or young, male or female. We are in the last days, the Prophet Joel says in Joel 2:28-29, “And afterward, I will pour out my Spirit on all people. Your sons and daughters will prophesy, your old men will dream dreams, your young men will see visions. Even on my servants, both men and women, I will pour out my Spirit in those days.”

“You need to be filled with that spirit for something to start in your life,” he said before praying for the students and guests. All the youths and leaders were filled with the Holy Spirit.

Mentor Catherine Nesserd was present at the Sunday meeting. The youths are from ages 12 and above, led by youth and worship leader Eddy. There are about 40 strong youths in the group at St. James, Kg Kuap. Kg Kuap is situated off the 10-mile Kuching-Serian road. Ps Gbenga Kotila from Center for Reality International Church, Ibadan, Nigeria was in Kuching for a week of prayer meetings and events.
