Wondersigns, a relatively young ministry formed in early 2020, has quickly captured the attention of local Christian worshippers and music enthusiasts. Originally established as a worship team in Every Nation Petaling Jaya, they soon branched out to share the gospel through their own compositions. Inspired by Acts 2:22 (NIV), “Fellow Israelites, listen to this: Jesus of Nazareth was a man accredited by God to you by miracles, wonders, and signs, which God did among you through him, as you yourselves know,” Wondersigns aims to create an experience of God’s love, miracles, and purpose through their music.
Their latest single, From Your Love, takes its inspiration from the well-loved Romans 8 in which the apostle Paul wrote about present suffering and future glory, and of being more than conquerors through Christ who loves us and gave His life for us, and who had been raised to life and is now interceding for us. A particularly poignant song, it touches on the theme of how God’s constant and faithful love and strength carry us through our times of trouble. Recently, Keith Piong, lead singer of the band, shares with us his hopes for the song as well as insights on its central message.
From Your Love
Keith shares that most of his songs come from quiet moments of personal devotion, meditating on and reading the Word of God. And though most of From Your Love was written by him, it was the collaborative effort with his bandmates in Unscripted that truly shaped its musical direction.
“Often, while reflecting on scripture, I’ll have my guitar beside me and begin to worship spontaneously, singing words inspired by what I’ve just read. From Your Love emerged from one of those moments.”
“Though I wrote most of the song, my bandmates in Unscripted played a huge role in shaping its musical direction. Kennard Kong, on drums, is very precise—every hit feels intentional. Casslina Lee flows seamlessly with him on bass, creating a solid rhythm foundation. Jethro Ooi and I took charge of the guitars, with him on electric and me on acoustic. Jethro, Sulyn, and I usually take turns experimenting with musical hooks in a song.”
“The main challenge was transforming the song into a modern structure with verses and choruses, as it was originally written as a simple devotional piece. Adapting it while maintaining the song’s core message took some creative effort.
“It’s always a team effort when we arrange a song. Fun fact: we rehearse and work on arrangements almost every Monday night.”
The musical vibe of From Your Love is a mix of acoustic Christian Contemporary Music (CCM) with a touch of alternative rock, inspired by Coldplay’s Fix You. “We wanted to keep things simple, but also build up a strong dynamic range. The song starts off soft and gradually builds, creating a sense of depth and emotion. That way, the final chorus really captures the powerful intensity of God’s love for us.
“For me, it’s essential to grasp that God is the very definition of love and that He created us out of love, to love as well. There was a season where I strongly felt the Holy Spirit affirming His love for me—that no matter what I do or what others may do, nothing can separate me from His love. This truth moved me, and I wanted to share it with others, which is why Romans 8 became the foundation for From Your Love.”
A central message of the magnitude of God’s love permeates the song. “Primarily, I hope listeners are able to catch the depth and intensity of God’s love, especially for those who feel far from Him. His love isn’t the kind of watered-down love we see in movies, nor is it distant, like a long-distance relationship. God’s love is right here, present, and can be both gentle and passionate like fire.
“For those who are close to God, I want this song to be a reminder that ‘we are more than conquerors through Him who loved us‘ (Rom 8:37). In Malaysia, I know friends who have made tough choices to break from family traditions to worship the one true God. Let this song remind everyone that God’s love isn’t defined by traditions or religion, and it’s because of His love that we, as believers, have the confidence and strength to keep pushing forward.”
From Your Love was first introduced during Easter this year as part of a short Easter play at Keith’s church. “I remember the actors did an amazing job bringing the song to life, and by the end, I noticed some people in the audience tearing up. It was really touching to see how the song moved people’s hearts. What’s even more interesting is that I found myself tearing up too—it was a really powerful moment for me as well.”
We asked Keith about his future hopes for his band, and he reflects, “Wondersigns is a worship ministry that focuses on prophetic worship, where we believe worship should be a two-way communication between heaven and earth—we speak, and then God speaks. In collaboration with my friends at Unscripted, we want to create worship experiences that go beyond the typical Sunday service format of singing a couple of fast and slow songs. Instead, we aim to provide space for God to speak as well. Feel free to drop by one of our Unscripted Worship Night—more info is on our Instagram! @wondersigns.official @unscripted.worship”
“Moving forward, we want to continue teaching and sharing the message of Christ through songs inspired by the Spirit, just as Colossians 3:16 encourages:
“Let the message of Christ dwell among you richly as you teach and admonish one another with all wisdom through psalms, hymns, and songs from the Spirit, singing to God with gratitude in your hearts.”“
