SHINE, the women ministry of River of God City Church (ROG) Ipoh, held its very first women’s conference on the 7th and 8th of December. Aimed to inspire and empower the women in this city, the conferenced kicked off with an opening prayer by Senior Pastor Colgan Francis. Despite the heavy rain and hail (yes, it was hailing in Ipoh!) in the afternoon that caused several areas of the church carpet to be wet through, ROG was filled with ladies of all ages and backgrounds.
Guest speaker, Rev Prof. Dr. George Thevarakam, who is an international preacher, evangelist and counselor as well as alumnus of the Bible College of Malaysia in PJ, spoke and inspired during the night sessions. One the first night, Rev. George touched on several ‘woman related’ issues, but one spoke to my heart was ‘Beautiful’ has nothing to do with the external beauty of a person.
According to Rev George, if a person, or woman knows who she is in Christ, she will be a better person, impacting her family, friends, neighborhood, and workplace. A woman who knows her living God (Jesus) will be a beautiful woman. In today’s celebrity culture, there are many who do great things, but still find it very hard to be beautiful. This is because it is the inner beauty of a person that will shine through.
HOW TO BE BEAUTIFUL INSIDE OUT?
Have a noble character
One of the things that a woman needs to have to be beautiful from the inside out is to have a noble character, as stated in Proverbs 31:10, which reads:
A wife of noble character who can find? She is worth far more than rubies.
Each of us have been called to be women of noble character, and we need to make a decision to be such a person. We need to be trustworthy, and when we have the fear of God, there are many things God can use us for.
Proverbs 31:10 onwards, tells us exactly how God intended a woman to be. While most, if not all women would find it near impossible to carry out everything in Proverbs 31 (I wondered when the Proverbs 31 woman found time to sleep!), this chapter in the Bible tells of a woman who loves and fears God, who hears God speaking to her heart. The Proverbs 31 woman has God in her. She is beautiful because she is in tune with God and has the heartbeat and compassion of Jesus. Because of her sensitivity to the Spirit of God, God is able to use her mightily.
Rise up to Take Our Place
As women of God, we need to rise up and be the people God has intended us to be. As such, we need to rise up to take our place in the kingdom of God so that we can become His instruments in our homes and workplaces. After all…
Who knows, but that you have come to your royal position for such a time as this? (Esther 4:14)
Proverbs 31:10-31
10 A wife of noble character who can find?
She is worth far more than rubies.
11 Her husband has full confidence in her
and lacks nothing of value.
12 She brings him good, not harm,
all the days of her life.
13 She selects wool and flax
and works with eager hands.
14 She is like the merchant ships,
bringing her food from afar.
15 She gets up while it is still night;
she provides food for her family
and portions for her female servants.
16 She considers a field and buys it;
out of her earnings she plants a vineyard.
17 She sets about her work vigorously;
her arms are strong for her tasks.
18 She sees that her trading is profitable,
and her lamp does not go out at night.
19 In her hand she holds the distaff
and grasps the spindle with her fingers.
20 She opens her arms to the poor
and extends her hands to the needy.
21 When it snows, she has no fear for her household;
for all of them are clothed in scarlet.
22 She makes coverings for her bed;
she is clothed in fine linen and purple.
23 Her husband is respected at the city gate,
where he takes his seat among the elders of the land.
24 She makes linen garments and sells them,
and supplies the merchants with sashes.
25 She is clothed with strength and dignity;
she can laugh at the days to come.
26 She speaks with wisdom,
and faithful instruction is on her tongue.
27 She watches over the affairs of her household
and does not eat the bread of idleness.
28 Her children arise and call her blessed;
her husband also, and he praises her:
29 “Many women do noble things,
but you surpass them all.”
30 Charm is deceptive, and beauty is fleeting;
but a woman who fears the Lord is to be praised.
31 Honor her for all that her hands have done,
and let her works bring her praise at the city gate
