Logos Hope, the world’s largest floating book fair, will soon bring its international crew to Kuching. The ship will be opened for the public on 12th of July to meet its crew members and also purchase books!
The ship’s 400 crew members are volunteers coming from over 56 nationalities, who left behind their families, jobs, and the security of their homes. Together, they show a unique example of how members of diverse culture can unite as one body of Christ.
Some of the crew members came with qualifications to fill specific roles such as engineering officers, plumbers, carpenters, bookkeepers, cooks, and other professionals. Many young people also came with no qualifications except for a willingness to serve. Although they have different backgrounds, the crew members agree in a common goal, which is to help people through social service projects and good literature. For example, during Logos Hope’s recent visit to Cambodia and the Philippines, crew members undertook many practical aid projects, including construction of schools, substantial book donations, and a free medical and dental clinic.
Logos Hope offers an expanded selection of over 5,000 titles at affordable prices. They cover a vast range of subjects including science, sports, hobbies, and family life. With children’s titles, academic texts, dictionaries, atlases and more, the book fair has something the whole family can enjoy. Additionally, the rest of the Visitor Experience deck is also opened for the public to explore. From the Welcome Area, which introduces the new vessel through a short movie and interactive displays, to the International Café, which has ice cream, drinks and snacks for sale, there is certainly something for everyone.
MV Logos Hope will open to the public at Sim Kheng Kong Port, pending from 12 July 2013.
Opening hours are:
10 am – 9:30 pm Wednesday through Saturday
1 pm – 9:30 pm on Sundays
2 pm – 9:30 pm Mondays and Tuesdays
Tickets cost RM1 for adults
Children under 12 enter for free, but must be accompanied by an adult.
Logos Hope is operated by GBA Ships e.V., which is an international, charitable organization registered in Germany. In almost 40 years of their service, the organisation has welcomed 40 million visitors up its gangways in over 160 countries and territories around the world.
