Many have equate the Holy Spirit as the person in the Godhead that points you to your faults and at the same time makes you feel so guilty to the point of confessing your sins and beating yourself up. The familiar verse of John 16:8 says:
8 When he comes, he will prove the world to be in the wrong about sin and righteousness and judgment:
Notice that “sin” is in plural of singular. Now read verse John 16:9-11:
9 about sin, because people do not believe in me;
10 about righteousness, because I am going to the Father, where you can see me no longer;
11 and about judgment, because the prince of this world now stands condemned.
Let’s break it down a bit further and you will begin to see what I am about to show you.
Sin = Unbelief people of the world
Righteousness = You. Going to the Father.
Judgment = Condemnation of Satan
Yup, the conviction of sin belongs to the people of the world, the conviction of righteousness to the believer (notice the word “you”?), and the conviction of Judgment towards the devil.
And just as Cialis Became a popular medication in its own right, so we can expect Levitra to become a common prescription for men suffering from erectile dysfunction. Taking the drug, any ideas and sexual fantasies may be implemented because your erection will be as a rock regardless of the level of the sexual arousal. Besides, it is rather confusing to decide which ED treatment is effective in your case.
The next question is this… did Jesus mean the Holy Spirit convicts the need to become righteous or the fact that YOU ARE ALREADY RIGHTEOUS when He leaves to His Father?
John 14:12:
Very truly I tell you, whoever believes in me will do the works I have been doing, and they will do even greater things than these, because I am going to the Father.
When He leaves and stays with His Father you will do greater things. Paul tells us Jesus was raised for our justification. The very reason Jesus was raised was proof that you have been justified. Justified means “Hesaysi amok”, “He says I am ok”, or plainly “I am righteous in His eyes”.
So the conviction of the Holy Spirit is that the believer is a righteous new creation already.
See 2 Cor 3:
8 will not the ministry of the Spirit be even more glorious?
9 If the ministry that brought condemnation was glorious, how much more glorious is the ministry that brings righteousness!
The ministry that brought condemnation was that which was written on stone. Note Paul says that ministry had brought condemnation. Brought, past tense. Now he says “how much more the ministry that brings righteousness!” See the Holy Spirit NOW brings righteousness.
He does not demand righteousness. He brings righteousness.
Here’s why:
Hebrews 9:14
14 How much more, then, will the blood of Christ, who through the eternal Spirit offered himself unblemished to God, cleanse our consciences from acts that lead to death, so that we may serve the living God!
Notice this incredible statement!
Jesus offered his blood through the eternal Spirit! When Jesus shouted “it is finished”, he said “into your hands , I commit my Spirit” and the Holy Spirit brought the blood of Jesus to the eternal tabernacle and offered it to His Father.
That is why it is the Holy Spirit who testify NOT for us BUT TO US, “our sins are remembered NO MORE”.
Hebrews 10:15-18
15 The Holy Spirit also testifies to us about this. First he says:
16 “This is the covenant I will make with them after that time, says the Lord. I will put my laws in their hearts and I will write them on their minds.”
17 Then he adds:
“Their sins and lawless acts
I will remember no more.”
What do you mean by “TO US”? It means the Holy Spirit speaks not to the Devil, Jesus nor even God but TO US! US! This is because we used to have a conscience that condemns us a conscience tainted by the Law. So the Spirit has to speak, testify, give account and convicts US that we have been justified, forgiven once and for all and righteous
Now here is the $100000000000 question. This Spirit that keeps on telling you “you are righteous”, how long does he stay in you?
John 14:16
16 And I will ask the Father, and he will give you another advocate to help you and be with you forever
One very important issue, as explained in my previous notes the word “commands” refers to verses 10-12 as “to believe” and verse 13 as to “ask”.
Now that we sort that out, we note two things. No. 1, he is called “advocate”. An advocate is a “barrister”, a lawyer, a person who argues for you NOT against you. This Lawyer is good, He is the best, He is the Spirit of the best Lawyer around, He is the Spirit of the person who gave the Law. He is the Holy Spirit.
And No. 2, He is given to you FOREVER! By the way the word “Another”, means “Another exactly alike”. The Spirit of Jesus carries the very essence of Jesus himself.
Dear friends,
The Holy Spirit is our counsel who fights for us and witness to us that we are righteous …. FOREVER! Selah.
