Psalm 32 – A Psalm from Pardon to Praise

(Written by Dexter Ng)

Consider yourself truly happy when your sin-debt is cancelled by God, and you don’t feel guilty because you know God has pardoned your wrong thinking and wrong doing. Therefore, accordingly, He does not hold anything against you, and you are not hiding anything from Him. Oh, what a joy! Oh, what a relief!

When I did not bring up my sins before God and told Him how sorry I was, I felt downhearted and rotten to the core all day long. The guilt-feeling kept piling up, and I was emotionally drained and dried up at the end of the day but when I let it all out to God, admitted all my sins and stopped trying to hide them from Him, the guilt-feeling which had laid heavy on me, left! He forgave me and I felt forgiven.

Believers, confess your sins to God. Keep short account with Him while there is time to be forgiven. This way, you avoid unnecessary judgment.

God, You are my hiding place. You protect and rescue me from the storms of life. You surround me with songs of deliverance.

The Lord says, “Let Me be your Guide and Wisdom; I will watch your progress as you travel through life’s pathway.” Don’t be stupid and stubborn like a horse or mule that has to have a bit in its mouth in order to stay in line and be useful.

Those who defy God, experience endless sorrows but those who trust God, find themselves consistently loved by Him. You, the godly ones who are mindful of God’s forgiveness, protection and guidance, rejoice and shout for joy!

Let’s Read Psalm 32

1 Blessed is the one

    whose transgressions are forgiven,

    whose sins are covered.

2 Blessed is the one

    whose sin the Lord does not count against them

    and in whose spirit is no deceit.

3 When I kept silent,

    my bones wasted away

    through my groaning all day long.

4 For day and night

    your hand was heavy on me;

my strength was sapped

    as in the heat of summer.

5 Then I acknowledged my sin to you

    and did not cover up my iniquity.

I said, “I will confess

    my transgressions to the Lord.”

And you forgave

    the guilt of my sin.

6 Therefore let all the faithful pray to you

    while you may be found;

surely the rising of the mighty waters

    will not reach them.

7 You are my hiding place;

    you will protect me from trouble

    and surround me with songs of deliverance.

8 I will instruct you and teach you in the way you should go;

    I will counsel you with my loving eye on you.

9 Do not be like the horse or the mule,

    which have no understanding

but must be controlled by bit and bridle

    or they will not come to you.

10 Many are the woes of the wicked,

    but the Lord’s unfailing love

    surrounds the one who trusts in him.

11 Rejoice in the Lord and be glad, you righteous;

    sing, all you who are upright in heart!

Let’s Pray

Our Heavenly Father,

We recognise our sinfulness and the tendency to think and do wrong. We are sorry to sin against You. We admit our sins, one by one, before You.

Thank You for being willing to forgive us. We rejoice that You always respond to our confession and repentance with complete forgiveness. Thank You that the judgment on our sin was satisfied by Your Son, Jesus Christ’s death on the cross.

God, we acknowledge that forgiveness has always been part of Your loving nature. You forgive disobedience, put our sins out of sight, and clear our record of guilt. Knowing these facts, we have this joyous experience of forgiveness through faith in Christ.

We ask that You help us in our intention to forsake sin in order to follow You more closely. Please deal with our stubbornness that keep us from obeying You. Do guide us with love and wisdom. In and through the Name of Jesus, we pray. Amen
