Grace Notes – The Sweat, the Blood and the Garden

16th Oct 2012.  By Simon Yap   –

Luke 22:44 (NIV)

And being in anguish, Jesus prayed more earnestly, and his sweat was like drops of blood falling to the ground.

God said to Adam when he sinned by taking the fruit of the Tree of Knowledge and Evil, “Physical hardship, painful toil, disappointing vexations, and hard struggle were appointed as the lot of the man, who was definitely adjudged a guilty sinner.” Formerly the earth had yielded its produce easily and freely to man, in great abundance. Adam had only to “dress” the garden (Gen 2:15) in order to enjoy its luscious fruits. But by now God pronounced a special curse on the ground. Henceforth it would yield its grains and fruits reluctantly.

Adam had to sweat in order for fruit to be produced. The curse is not working for produce but toiling for it. Toiling does not only mean hard work but also worrying. You may say at this moment I don’t have to work very hard for money, but the curse includes being worried about losing it. You can have a lot and worry a lot, when you are under the Curse. The curse of Poverty is the constant worry of money and not just the lack of it.

When Jesus suffered at the Garden at Gethsemane, His blood was mixed with His sweat as He suffered great anguish. Medical practitioners tell us it is due to great stress. My friends I like to suggest to you that He was redeeming you from Adam’s curse of having to toil (be stressful and be worried) to gain wealth or at least having his needs met. His blood was washing Adam’s sweat. Jesus went through extreme toil and anguish in order to redeem us of this curse.

Are you in debt? Are you toiling to settle it? I have news for you. 2 Cor 8:9 tells us that “For you know the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, that though He was rich, yet for your sakes He became poor, that you through His poverty might become rich.”

Because of one’s death in the family, brought abundance, but how much more shall the death of Christ brings life to our impoverished souls. We can claim the BLOOD of Jesus over lives, but specifically over our labor. We will not have to labor like the world, we can claim success in our lives because the power of the BLOOD gives me right over the curse and toil of this world.

Dear friend, the right to be forgiven and delivered from debt was conferred to you when Jesus died from you. All you need to do is to claim what is yours. Confess Jesus became poor so that my debts may be settled in Jesus’ name and rest and see Jesus delivers you from your debt!

Thought of the Day.

Jesus’ sweat had redeemed you from your need to sweat!
