Good TV is Taiwan’s first Christian television channel for Chinese-speaking audience. After 14 years since its first broadcast, Good TV was launched in Malaysia on May 2009, having reached 56 countries at present.
On October 6, I was privileged to attend a music concert held by Good TV at The Icon, Kuala Lumpur. Good TV was founded to share the Word of God to Christians around the world through media and social platforms such as the television, Internet, mobile applications, You Tube and Facebook.
Shinichiro Maeda, an acclaimed opera singer from Japan, kicked off the event with his smooth yet powerful voice. He started with a few classics such as “I rather be with Jesus” and “How great Thou are”, mixed with the contemporary song of “You raise me up”. Even more powerful was his testimony of how God raised him up.
“When I was a child, I hated music and music class was naptime for me,” Maeda shared comically. “But one day, I dreamed of becoming a music teacher, then opera singer. All of my families, friends, and teachers said I could not make it because I didn’t have any background and training in music. Why can I become an opera singer? Because He raises me up to become an opera singer. If God gave you that desire, He will raise you up,” Maeda said.
After Maeda’s performance, Tan Koon Swan- a prominent figure in Malaysia- shared how God was faithful to him during his challenging times. God was Tan’s provider, redeemer, and restorer.
“When everything was stripped off from you like the world has come to an end, there is only one thing that keeps you whole,” Tan shared before he broke into singing “turn your eyes upon Jesus.” Indeed, “the things of this earth will grow strangely dim” if we look upon our Lord Jesus Christ.
Next, John Lucas, a charming and engaging Jamaican gospel singer based in Japan, sang with a strong and soulful voice. Through his performance, Lucas desired to bless his audience with his songs.
“I just love to go around and make a joyful noise up to the Lord. That’s how music speaks the truth and the truths are love, joy, hope, and peace. I hope that through my performance tonight, you will receive these things,” John Lucas expressed before singing “Amazing Grace”, followed by classic hymns such as “Because He lives” and his written song of “Keep Hope Alive” inspired during the recent Japan’s tsunami.
The music concert was a success. I realized that our brothers and sisters-in-Christ who work in the entertainment or media industry possess a great and unique opportunity to touch the lives of many people. And for that, I am thankful that God has raised such talented individuals, and positioned them in such a way to share God’s love.
As N.I.V. Proverbs 22:29 says, “Do you see a man skilled in his work? He will serve before kings; he will not serve before obscure men.” A man best at work serves the King, our Father in Heaven. Thank God for raising such talented individuals!
