The Good Shepherd – Glad Tidings Assembly of God

A sneak peak of their Vision Centre as it is undergoing construction

Glad Tidings, currently located in Section 13, Petaling Jaya, and it is a church that is currently undergoing a huge renovation for their ultimate global vision. They seek to increase their facilities in what they call their “Vision Centre”. This is to provide additional space for greater revival and growth, by using sacred space that is God-glorifying and encompassing concepts that are smart, living and natural. The center will be able to accommodate an enlarged capacity of people in order to seat the thousands more of people that they are expecting that will come as they grow. Once their Vision Centre is built, their current services in Jalan Gasing, Petaling Jaya will move into the center as well. So all services will be held here. At the moment, people who would like to attend do not fret, as the church is not closed for renovation. Services are still on! And many should look for the walk path next to the renovation area; you will be able to find them there behind the building, and still fully in operation! Glad Tidings Chinese Church is still held as usual in Jalan Gasing.

For those who would like to know more, the Church has been around for many years as they first started off in the year 1963 in an office space. Soon after, they moved on to the Chapel of Bible College of Malaysia a few years later. In the 1980’s, gonflable as it kept growing, the Church was built at a cost of approximately over two million ringgit on BCM’s  land and later they rented some additional facilities at a former state cinema for their youth and Chinese Church. It was in 2002 that they bought this land in Section 13 that they are currently constructing on. They did a renovation earlier on however, it was just a simple one compared to what they envision it to be soon in their current construction and renovation.

Do Not Worry for we have Abundant Life

Their Saturday service in Glad Tidings sees a lot of families attending as well as children but mainly youths. Their worship is lively and many take part in dancing to the beat as they have praise and worship.

Reverend Linda Khoo preached today, and she preached about how everyone has a different point of view about life, some good and some bad. Sadly, for some life is nothing but the time they are born and the time they are buried. People everywhere are seeking for answers to the emptiness of their lives. According to John 10:10, “The thief comes only to steal, kill and destroy; I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full.” She then talked about the good shepherd who takes care of his sheep as mentioned in the scriptures, how the shepherd leads his sheep, takes care of them, and how he accepts the sheep even if it’s not his own. The shepherd is like our Lord God that takes care of us and always provides for us ever lovingly.

The significance of Rev. Linda’s sermon today is about abundant life. Now we trade all our sorrows for the new life, when we believe in Jesus Christ we are transformed and all things become new. We start thinking according to the Word of God and we have a new purpose in life. She says, “According to the testimonies of those who have been baptized, some say, now I have peace in my heart while some say, now I’m more obedient and then there are some others that say that they have become less aggressive and patient” Do not worry, because God will take care of you just as it is written in the scriptures, Matthew 6: 25 states, “Therefore I tell you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat or drink; or about your body, what you will wear. Is not life more than food, and the body more than clothes?” She then says, “God provides rations for us, he brings us to good pastures, just as how He looks for grass for His sheep, all you have to do is pray and follow. In the Christian life, we do have our problems and our difficulties, but it’s different when we have our good shepherd.” Negative feelings or things in our life, and even destructive behaviors can be driven away through the power and the grace of God. In short, we can be successful and have abundant life despite of our past; we start life anew when we accept the Lord, a reminder for all to keep. In terms of material things, when everyone comes to the end of their life no one can bring their gold or their treasures with them, but we can take with us eternal values for the Lord. In the end, the heart of our Lord, the good shepherd is always with us.
