Music has the ability to touch several lives and reach deep within one’s soul. It has the ability to lift you, create dreams, inspire many and bring you to places you have never been. One of the lives that God and music both has touched is the life of Natallie Ng, aged 19. It was today that I got a chance to meet Natallie for the first time after hearing so much about her. It is true that nobody has it easy in this life we live in; some hide it behind their smiles so that none may know while some in other different ways. Natallie finds comfort in her music, serving in the music ministry, her family and of course Almighty God. One thing to be admired is that even at a young age, she does not let life pull her down, as she remains highly optimistic.
Psalms 103:11 – You’re loved – high as the sky, deep as the ocean, wide as the world.
A student of contemporary music and studying in UCSI, Natallie began singing at a very young age. She grew up in a very musical environment one could say, as her father used to sing a lot especially at his cell group meetings while she played the piano for him. That experience she says made her enjoy worship leading in Church until this very day. At a very young age of 8 or 9, she accepted Christ on her own because she felt the conviction that God was really real, and that is how she became a born again Christian. She says, “My parents really showed how Christ is to me.”
At a mere age of 12 or so, she attended a Church camp and felt Christ’s presence there, and that was the first time she ever felt that. That same year, her worship leading began at her school in Sri Sempurna during the chapel service. After being recognized there, about two years later she quickly tried out at the auditions at her church in FGA (Full Gospel Assembly), Kuala Lumpur. That was where she got accepted and started training first of all as a backup singer for the Church.
Soon she eventually began worship leading there as well. “I realized that worship leading is more than having the talent to sing. I was actually guided on how to run my daily life and more, because it wasn’t that easy. Worship leading is also about being sensitive to God and the ability to bring people into His presence,” Being not much of a talker, she always spoke through her music and through writing songs whenever she felt something significant in her life at a very young age.
Caring for one another, loving one another just as Christ loved Us
All was going well for Natallie at this point. Until one fine day, where she met a boy she liked. It was all going great until she experienced her first heartbreak which literally broke her. Feeling the lowest that she has ever felt at that time, she even had thoughts of taking her own life. Thankfully, her story did not end that way. A little after that experience, she took part in a Church camp. There she was cared for and loved, and there was when she was reminded that “God loves you.” In situations where one feels down and out, little do people know that a gentle reminder such as this can do wonders for a person’s life, and it did! After hearing that, Natalie felt that the strength was put back into her. She was back on track once more as she picked herself up and left her sadness behind her. That was the biggest miracle of her life. Renewed life was breathed into her once more.
Christ gave her Strength and inspired her through her Darkest hours
More than a year ago was when she really experienced Christ, when her own beloved father passed away. She was devastated, because she really looked up to him and loved him with all her heart. Looking at him and his actions, she says, “He really resembled Christ.” She adds, “My dad was always very encouraging and supportive. He would always support whenever I want to learn new things. When I was 12, I told my dad I would like to learn the guitar, just a casual conversation with him, and saying “wah quite cool ah” and then I remembered dad picked me up from school, looking very excited. When we got back home, there was a guitar just waiting for me. I still remembered dad’s face, saying “surprise!”
“Me and my family have always known how much he loved us, never once doubting his love. Because of this, it was easier for me to embrace the love of Christ after having experienced the love of my earthly Father. Seeing how much he loved me, I can only imagine how much greater Christ’s love is for us,” says Natallie.
With that she felt the need to depend on God this time, so she prayed and she asked for God to help her to pull through this difficult time of her life. The aching in her heart made her go into her break away into her music. She says, “I miss my Dad but just as my earthly father has always wanted the best for us, I’m sure that my Heavenly Father will always want the best for us as well and all we have to do is to trust in Him to bring us through and give us the strength. God has His plans and I trust that He has His reasons for all these and I believe He has everything in control.”
Doors Began to Open
The year 2012, saw many opportunities slowly opening up for her. A few months ago, Red.FM was trying to bring up local talents, and she was one of the many that was chosen to be on radio where she sang on air. She was very pleased with that. From there her friends started asking her to join them for gigs. They asked her prior to her winning the radio competition as well but she used to refuse due to lack of confidence. This time, she gathered up her courage and accepted their offer to perform. Since then, she has performed in a few places namely Publika, Pavilion and at a college event for National Cancer Awareness. She even took part in an Urbanscapes competition and made it to the top ten, where the winner is still waiting to be announced soon enough. God has been guiding her and raining blessings upon her life as she prays.
Recently she wrote a song about her dad entitled “The Dedication”. She says, “This song about trusting in God’s will and telling my father what I wanted to say. I hope it will be blessing to everyone else too.”
In the future she says, “I would really like to become a singer/song writer one day. It’s my dream to really reach out and help those people who have talents and are not noticed, to bring them up.” Amen!
Isaiah 40:30-31 – Even youths grow tired and weary, and young men stumble and fall; but those who hope in the LORD will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint.
