As we celebrated our national day on the 31st August 2013, the Ipoh combined youth ministry came together for praise and worship, as well as to pray for our beloved nation. Powered by ONE Ministry, a platform that allows for youth ministries in Ipoh to come together and work together in unity, the Festival of Praise and Prayer was held at Canning Garden Baptist Church.
The Festival of Praise and Prayer 2013 saw about 200 young people from different churches gather for a powerful time of prayer, crying out for the presence of God to come upon their school, workplaces and their country. Unity among the churches was indeed apparent when pastors and leaders from different churches took the stage to lead the prayer. As such, even the band that lead worship that night was made up of musicians from different churches.
Specifically, the young people prayed for their schools and universities – that believers would lead and be an influence, and that Christian Fellowships would grow and impact their schools and universities; for their churches – that young people would rise up and start to serve in their capacity, that churches would be the salt and light in Ipoh and that there would be unity among the churches in Ipoh; for their workplaces – that there would be divine favour and opportunities for those who are in the marketplace, and for those who are working to have a kingdom mindset in which they would put God first instead of chasing the things of the world. Our government and our country was also upheld in prayer.
The night ended with young people who came together in unity singing the national anthem Negaraku with much pride and gusto. This followed with food and fellowship, and many asking when the next combined event would be. It was a night that signified that churches can come together despite their difference to pray and give worship to the King of Kings.
