God has promised us the knowledge of His love for us. 1 John 4:16 says that “We have known and believed the love that God has to us….” However, many times we doubt His love and we question if we are ‘good enough’ to receive His love. As His children, we need to develop faith in our Father’s love for us and that His love for us will never change. Here are a few steps that we can take to develop faith and confidence in His love for His children.
Put the Word of God First Place
Like all other areas that require faith, the same rules apply to the development of faith in His love. First, put the Word of God first place, and don’t be moved by our feelings. To develop our faith in God’s love and anything else from God, we have to first learn what the Word of God says about it. Romans 10:17 says that faith comes by hearing and hearing the Word of God. For example, many of us worry about what our future holds and question God’s love for us. We need to know that Psalm 23:6 says ‘Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life” and not go by how we ‘feel’ about the love of God. We need to be confident that God’s mercy and goodness is a fact.
Meditate on the scriptures concerning God’s love.
Next, meditate on God’s word and what it says about the Father’s love, instead of ruminating about the things that are not going right in our lives. As we meditate on His word, we will start recognizing the power of His love and how it can change lives. As the well-known hymn goes, ‘And the things of this world will grow strangely dim, in the light of His mercy and grace’
ACT on the Word concerning the love of God
1 John 4:11-12 says, “Beloved, if God so loved us, we ought also to love one another. No man has seen God at any time. If we love one another, God dwells in us, and his love is perfected in us.” This means that when we put to practice by loving one another, God’s love is perfected in us. God’s love never fails, and when we love one another, His love will be allowed to run its full course in our lives.
DECIDE to live the love life
As Christians, we need to make the decision to live by love. This means that with God enabling us, we need to make a conscious decision to refuse to let our thoughts and emotions hinder us from walking in love. It is our choice as to whether we walk in love, and this must not depend on whether others are doing so or not. We need to be able to respond in love without having to think about it.
Walking in love requires us to walk in the spiritual realm. Human nature will tell us to go ‘an eye for an eye’ but when we walk in love and commit ourselves to walk in love, talk in love, think in love and respond in love, we release and allow the love of God to work in our lives.
