The Day Kajang Town is Painted Green

7 April 2013 by James Hoh CM –

Kajang Town was painted green at least for an hour! No, it wasn’t that Greenpeace activists have descended to this small town of Selangor or another political rally. It was the much awaited Kajang’s Easter Prayer March 2013.

Some 900 Christians, mostly wearing green, thronged the streets of Kajang for at least an hour, praying that God would heal the land of Malaysia. God has promised this in 2 Chronicles 7:14:

14 if My people who are called by My name will humble themselves, and pray and seek My face, and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin and heal their land. (2 Chronicles 7:14, NKJV)

Christians of all ages and races walking and praying

“Heal Our Land…” was the theme the Kajang Pastors’ Fellowship committee adopted a few months ago for the Saturday prayer march.

This was a change from the usual Easter Marches that took place over the years as this year the emphasis is on prayer, moving forward from the theme “One in Christ” of previous years.

The pastors felt the need to pray for the country since the General Election is round the corner.

The event kicked off at about 2pm with vibrant praise and worship to the Lord Jesus Christ as the participants. Tambourine dancers were dancing under the hot sun.

Rev Peter Lai, the event Chairman, encouraged the pastors, elders and missionary of Kajang churches to come out and pray. Leaders and members from about 20 churches of different denominations came and went down on their knees to confess the sins – corruptions, injustice and discrimination – on behalf of Malaysia.

The pastors and elders each took turns to pray for blessings and healing to come to the nation and everyone as we confessed sins.  They also prayed for truth, reverential fear and compassion among our leaders, the ministers and leaders of the ruling government.

Christian praying all over town

Rev Lai asked the churches to confess their sins for not praying as a church. Father George of Holy Family Church in Kajang also prayed and gave thanks to God for the fine weather and prayed for everyone to be courageous, not to be ashamed of telling others about the Good News.

The disabled also came

Participants were asked to pray, confess and repent for neglecting time alone with God. Rev Josephine of Praise Evangelical Assembly led this prayer and asked for personal revival for everyone.

Finally, Dr Fred Tan who was one of the leaders from Kajang Assembly of God prayed for all the pastors and elders that they will be blessed, encouraged and faithful in their lives to God so that they will continue to lead the churches successfully.

After the offering, the crowd dispersed and gathered around the Stadium in groups according to their languages, namely: English, Chinese, Tamil, Nepali and Bahasa Malaysia. However, the children as a group were leading the whole March.

The march began after the Shofa sounded 7 times

The rally went on smoothly with the assistance of the traffic police. As they marched through the streets, many curious customers and shop owners came out of their shop and witnessed the event, some even made video recordings. Many motorists stopped and saw the event.

What made it exciting and meaningful was that the participating groups, led by their leaders, continually praising the Lord with songs as they marched.

Pastors and leaders of each group took turn to pray when they stopped at each of the five designated station which essentially covered the whole town.

Young people love the Malaysia too

After an hour or so, the groups started to return to the stadium. As they marched one final round in the stadium, they sang this chorus:

“There’s gonna be a great awakening

There’s gonna be a great revival in our land

There’s gonna be a great awakening

And everyone who calls on Jesus

They will be saved”

Everyone had a wonderful time praying for the nation and praising the Lord. Bottles of mineral water were grabbed up immediately as everyone was thirsty and exhausted. Some even lost their voice!

To God be the glory!
