Deception has existed since the beginning of time, and has been a recurring theme ever since Adam and Eve was deceived by the serpent in the Garden of Eden. The word “deceive” carries the idea of being led astray. Nevertheless, the Bible tells us that we only need to trust and obey the Lord, for there is no other way to be happy in Jesus but to trust and obey.
The Bible according to John 14:26 cites: “But the Helper, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in My name, He will teach you all things, and bring to your remembrance all that I said to you.” The anointing of God abides in you. We have been encouraged because we have been sent a helper, namely the Holy Spirit, who will advise and will help us in times of need. The Holy Spirit serves as your gatekeeper and should be your guide in all the truths Christ reveals to your heart.
We have already been forewarned about the existence of evil in the world that will try to deceive us as shown in the Bible verses below:
And the great dragon was thrown down, that ancient serpent, who is called the devil and Satan, the deceiver of the whole world—he was thrown down to the earth, and his angels were thrown down with him. (Revelation 12:9)
Be alert and of sober mind. Your enemy the devil prowls around like a roaring lion looking for someone to devour. (1 Peter 5:8)
In a relatively peaceful nation such as this, many would not see themselves in battle because it happens ever so subtly. Most of us feel safe and secure. There are many con artists in the world who will try their best to deceive us. Therefore, we need to be alert at all times, to stay close to the Word of God, and to the leading of the Holy Spirit so that we are not deceived. In this case, it is also important to be aware of where your loyalty lies. If you are going to church yet your loyalty lies elsewhere such as to man, to money, or to a movement, then God will not be impressed. God is looking for those who are chasing after His heart, who love Him, and is loyal to Him in all that they do.
The Spirit of truth. The world cannot accept him, because it neither sees him nor knows him. But you know him, for he lives with you and will be in you. (John 14:17)
I am writing these things to you about those who are trying to lead you astray. As for you, the anointing you received from him remains in you, and you do not need anyone to teach you. But as his anointing teaches you about all things and as that anointing is real, not counterfeit—just as it has taught you, remain in him. (1 John 2:26-27)
Put on the whole armor of God that you may be able to stand against the schemes of the devil. (Ephesians 6:11)
No temptation has overtaken you that is not common to man. God is faithful, and he will not let you be tempted beyond your ability, but with the temptation he will also provide the way of escape, that you may be able to endure it. (1 Corinthians 10:13)
In order to not be deceived, affirm God’s goodness in times of trial and tribulation.
Affirm and fill yourself in the Word of God.
Every good and perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of the heavenly lights, who does not change like shifting shadows. (James 1:17)
being confident of this, that he who began a good work in you will carry it on to completion until the day of Christ Jesus. (Philippians 1:6)
Through all this, remember that it is very important that you avoid spiritual deception by affirming God’s sovereignty and goodness. Resist satan by holding the Word of God close to you, which has been given to us as a map to our path of life in this world. Remember that God has saved you for His purpose and will care for you through every trial. God wants you to live for something more than yourself, He wants you to live for Him, and to sow more seeds in this world that many more people will know about His glory, His mercy, and His love. Affirm yourself daily in His Word and live purposefully!
You intended to harm me, but God intended it for good to accomplish what is now being done, the saving of many lives. (Genesis 50:20)
And we know that God causes all things to work together for good to those who love God, to those who are called according to His purpose. For those whom He foreknew, He also predestined to become conformed to the image of His Son, so that He would be the firstborn among many brethren; and these whom He predestined, He also called; and these whom He called, He also justified; and these whom He justified, He also glorified.
What then shall we say to these things? If God is for us, who is against us? He who did not spare His own Son, but delivered Him over for us all, how will He not also with Him freely give us all things? Who will bring a charge against God’s elect? God is the one who justifies; who is the one who condemns? Christ Jesus is He who died, yes, rather who was raised, who is at the right hand of God, who also intercedes for us. Who will separate us from the love of Christ? Will tribulation, or distress, or persecution, or famine, or nakedness, or peril, or sword? Just as it is (Romans 8: 28-36)
You did not choose me, but I chose you and appointed you so that you might go and bear fruit—fruit that will last—and so that whatever you ask in my name the Father will give you. (John 15:16)
