Children Prayer Camp 2012 – On Holy Ground. Part 2

As dawn breaks, it was time to grab a quick breakfast, hand-in new tags, buy more colored lanyards, and hand out camp t-shirts. A brand new day for Children Prayer Camp 2012 has officially started.

 

Day 2:    The new day brought in some children who registered for the second day. Additionally, some last minute helpers from Saratok showed up yesterday and needed identification tags.  The team feels blessed from all the support and prayers that came in.

After all the children had their prayer time in their individual classes, everyone assembled in the auditorium for morning praise and worship led by worship leader Sok Ing. As the children broke up into their teams for tea-break, it was time for a quick check and follow up with all groups, in all four floors, with the secretariat team. 

 

Before the next workshop session, I managed to talk to the ladies at the ground floor – the kitchen ministry team.  “We really enjoy ourselves. We get to fellowship with all three languages (Iban, BM and English) ministries involved,” said member Monica Kueh. The Chinese Ministry was away on Bible Camp. Most of all, we like to meet the children, she continued. “We enjoy preparing the food. Everyone is helpful and we communicate well with each other because we are committed to God’s glory,” she said. The team also commented on how helpful the youths were.

Fellow team member from the kitchen ministry, Timah Jelimin noted how well behaved the children were. “One way to train them (children) up to be independent is by allowing them to wash their own dishes and help out in the kitchen,” she added. She also agreed that the camp is a time for fellowship with one another.

 

Next, it was time for the next session. From Habakkuk 2:1-2, “Write down the revelation and make it plain on tablets so that a herald may run with it. For the revelation awaits an appointed time; it speaks of the end and will not prove false. Though it linger, wait for it; it will certainly come and will not delay.”(NIV)

The second workshop is about prayer. “Prayer is not doing something; it is being with someone,” proclaimed Superintendent Anna Richard. “If you learn to pray from a young age, the devil will not come close to you. Take authority! You are God’s children. Do not allow the devil to talk to you,” she further emphasized.

 

God’s word can change you and give you life. God’s word can bring you through to high places. “Jesus wants you to talk to Him all the time and He wants to talk to you,” said the Superintendent. Devote yourselves to prayer, being watchful and thankful, Colossians 4:2. The message was also translated in Iban by teacher Tia Tindin from St. Augustine, Betong.

 

One of the lessons also involved using bible verses to pray. The children did the practical exercises really well. This lesson was also done in various languages. Although many youths come in as helpers, they also come in to pray and learn. The prayer camp also served as a training ground for other parishes.

 

During the break, I walked to some of the classrooms and talked to some campers. St. Thomas Cathedral teacher, Natalie Kong commented on how interesting the camp was. She noted how the camp was really focused on prayer. “This generation needs it and the sessions are very practical,” she said. “It’s good to see kids come together, especially from different churches. We are one family as children of God,” she added. The Cathedral brought in 19 children and two teachers to the camp.  

 

Group 10’s Eucharistia Kamor, 7, said she really enjoyed herself and she made new friends. From Group 5, teacher Fawler Then mentioned, “This is the biggest one (camp) so far with other churches and a lot of helpers.” He added that the camp was very good because it allowed the children to meet others from other churches and also know the Lord. He has been with St. Faith’s Church Ministry Jako Iban for the last 15 years. Ennette Faith, from Group 2 had been bringing her ex-school friend Larissa to most of St. Faith’s Church camps. “We get to meet old friends and new friends from Betong, Ta’ee and Tian,” she said.

The night session praise and worship was led by worship leader Irine Sanyung. For the practical prayer session, Superintendent Anna Richard invited everyone to form groups of four persons including one teacher/helper and three children for a time to pray for one another. As the campers were praying, Superintendent Anna Richard declared a word from God that “This is holy ground.” She then asked if anyone heard from God. There was a vision of manna falling to the ground received by one of the committees. The prayer-filled room brought the children one by one upfront to give their testimonies in all languages. About 19 children, including one or two helpers heard and saw Jesus speaking to them. Many were healed and comforted. Many heard Jesus said, “I love you.” It was a joyful night. There were other children that did not come up to share their testimony that night, but they all shared the same vision. The children were in heaven.

 

“God is so wonderful! He is speaking to them (the children). God is protecting our children and we’re going to claim every child for Jesus!” said Superintendent Anna Richard.

 

Praise God for an awesome night. As the children began setting up their sleeping areas for the night, we know that each one can boldly proclaim that their redeemer lives.
