“There are two things that exist in the eyes of God; the heavens and the earth. When you’re not on earth, you’re in heaven” shared Pastor Jack Piong who recently preached at Faith Oasis Fellowship on the 23rd of August.

He reflected on three simple passages below from the Bible. “One of the biggest questions in our Christian walk is, “How will I know God’s will for my life?” he shared.

In the beginning, God created the heavens and the earth. 2 The earth was without form and void, and darkness was over the face of the deep. And the Spirit of God was hovering over the face of the waters. (Genesis 1:1)

And Jesus came and said to them, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. 19 Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in[a] the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, 20 teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you. And behold, I am with you always, to the end of the age. (Matthew 28:18-20)

He who testifies to these things says, “Yes, I am coming soon.” Amen. Come, Lord Jesus. (Revelations 22:20)

As we continue to reflect on God’s will for our lives, there are two aspects that we generally come up, God’s will and our own will. Every human being has at some time or other clashed with the Will of God or the Will of other men. Due to the fact that everyone is different, we acknowledge that we seldom think as others do or even share the same opinions.

The result of this constant clash of thinking can often result in a stronger attachment to our own Will. “All of us make plans over and over again but in the end the Lord says that it is His plan that prevails,” shared Jack. We can nourish our Will much as a woman nourishes her baby. A constant diet of self-will feeds our pride and the result is the same as over-eating. When our pride grows out of proportion to our intelligence and the result is disaster. When man begins to make unreasonable demands and man begins to become slaves to themselves.

I have given them your word, and the world has hated them because they are not of the world, just as I am not of the world. 15 I do not ask that you take them out of the world, but that you keep them from the evil one. (John 17:14-15)

It is the Spirit who gives life; the flesh is no help at all. The words that I have spoken to you are spirit and life. (John 6:63)

God preferred to give us an example of how to overcome rather than take away our frailties by giving us Jesus. Through the knowledge of the Lord we can conclude that He preferred to have human beings overcome His archenemy by the power of the Spirit living in them.

He will cover you with his feathers, and under his wings you will find refuge; his faithfulness will be your shield and rampart. (Psalm 91:4)

Many are the plans in a person’s heart, but it is the LORD’s purpose that prevails. (Proverbs 19:21)

How do you know what’s God’s plan?

“If you continue to surrender to God, whatever that comes your way and whenever you have the peace to do the things that God wants you to do, you will know that, that is the direction that God wants you to move” shared Jack.

In order to live in His will, we must look at the life of Jesus and to the Word of God. Jesus saw in every facet of His life, the Will of His Father. He seemed preoccupied with it. When He spoke, He told the crowds the words He spoke were the Father’s words. When He healed, He told them He only did the “work” of the Father. When He was in pain, He saw the love of the Father for mankind permitting Him to suffer in order to redeem us.

In addition to that, according to the Bible, Jesus reminded us of the desire for worldly possessions when He said, “No servant can be the slave of two masters: he will either hate the first and love the second, or treat the first with respect and the second with scorn”. With all our desires to be good and holy there is in our soul that constant struggle between what we are and what we want to be.

“God’s will is to bless you! Remember that! He wants to prosper you and make you successful. Sometimes in our life and in our walk we always wonder why God has blessed my neighbour and not me,” shared Jack. We can continue pondering and comparing our own blessings and the blessings that others have received over and over and it still will not result in any positivity. “Know that there are reasons in it” he said. We need to love God, have faith in Him, and be obedient to His Word. You can only solve a problem through the grace and strength of God.

If you love me, keep my commands. (John 14:15)

For I know the plans I have for you, declares the LORD, plans for welfare[a] and not for evil, to give you a future and a hope. (Jeremiah 29:11)
