The KASIH concert organized by MGM (Malaysian Gospel Music) at City Harvest KL onwas a wonderful way to start the month of December! The variety of local performers who were brought to the stage were a breath of fresh air as they sang from their hearts to the Lord. The vocalists and musicians delivered soulful and lively performances that kept the crowd entertained, as they sang along and moved to the worship music until the night finally draw to a close. More than 1000 people attended the concert.
After a video presentation, Nicholas Wu, president of MGM, welcomed the audience on-stage before the concert began. “Malaysian Gospel music has gone through an incredible journey! Our gospel music is not inferior to other's from around the world. We want our gospel music to be sung in our churches, particularly the Bahasa Malaysia songs, and that is why we have come to hear and witness it being sung today, with the hope that you will bring these songs back to your church and sing it there. Tonight you will hear a new generation emerge, you will hear new people coming forth and the older ones that are making way. I believe that this is revival coming to Malaysia, and that there is a new sound!” Nicholas said.
The artistes who performed were Patrick Leong, SAND, Esther Mui, Debra Robert, Meisya, Norita, and the SEMOA dance team, Aris Siew, Rhemedy Anthony, Elena Koshy, Andrew Leong, Grace Sng, William Kok, Rosita Patah, Timothy Lim, and Free to Fall (all girl band). The artistes came from all around East and West Malaysia, presenting original Bahasa Malaysia and English songs in a unique and engaging way. Throughout the concert, unity among the artistes and attendees of the performance were apparent. Moreover, everyone who attended went home with a brand new KASIH album!
To date, MGM has compiled two albums, ADORE and KASIH. The concert was held to promote and bring awareness about the new KASIH album, to raise awareness about the other local albums and artistes available, to raise the standard of gospel music in Malaysia, and last but not least, to create a platform for Malaysian Christian artistes to make an impact in our churches, culture, and community. Despite being a fairly new organization that started out in year 2011, they did a great job bringing local artistes together through several organized concerts around Malaysia including, Johor, Penang, Ipoh, Kuching and Kuala Lumpur.
Note: MGM is a fellowship of Christian artistes, musicians, songwriters, producers, and anyone associated with gospel music in Malaysia. They organize annual events and production of albums and songbooks.
