64-Year Old Miraculously Survive a 6-Feet Fall From a Ladder With Only a Minor Scratch!

Peter Khoo

My name is Peter Khoo and I am 64 years of age. On the day of the incident of my testimony, it was a hot sunny morning and I needed to inspect my leaking roof. This was a routine I had done numerous times because of the rainy season. I unfolded a 6 -ft high ladder and climbed up to the concrete roof of my house alone. As always, I didn’t need my wife’s help, nor did I let her know of my intention to climb to the roof. I placed the ladder near the concrete wall separating my neighbour’s house from mine.

After completing the inspection of my roof, I came down via another adjoining wall and then to the top of the ladder. As I placed both of my feet on the ladder, it began to wobble. I lost my balance and fell. The fall was from a distance of 6 feet! I landed on the tiled floor with a loud crashing sound from the ladder.

My wife heard the loud bang, came rushing out, and was shocked to see me lying flat on the floor. Recovering from the impact, realisation began to dawn on me that I had fallen from the ladder and was now lying on the floor with my eyes facing her and the skies.

“Are you ok? Are you ok?” She began to ask me repeatedly, her voice anxious with concern. I looked at her and smiled to reassure her, grateful to God for His protection and for keeping me fully conscious. “I am ok. I am fine,” I conveyed to my wife. I was speaking normally and there was absolutely no pain at all in my body.

While still lying on the floor, I then moved my body slowly to feel and check if there were any broken or sprained joints, hands, or legs. I was able to move all my hands and legs. I felt no pain, I didn’t see any wound nor blood. I could move. Praise the Lord!

Gently, I slowly edged myself up to a sitting position. I shook my head slowly and slapped myself gently to check if I had dizziness or pain in my head and neck. There were none!

When I was ready, my wife held both my hands to help me up. I then stood up and started walking about to check my limbs, head, and body. Again, I felt that all were good except for some mild pain, like a muscle soreness near the left thigh and buttocks, and just a minor cut on the back of my head that was likely due to grazing on the tiled floor. Those were the only injuries I had. Hallelujah!

My wife urged me to see the doctor for an x-ray to check if there were any internal injuries, bleeding, concussion, broken or sprained bones or joints. I walked around slowly to assess my condition. Again, I felt no serious pain. So, I said to her I will give the doctor’s visit a miss as the doctor would probably conduct the same physical test that I had just done. I told her I will monitor myself over the next few days to determine if there was a need to.

I began to assess why the ladder gave way. And how I landed myself on the tiled floor without serious injuries, sprained limbs, injured spines, or worst, even death! The ladder gave way because I did not lock the lever and it collapsed when I stepped on it.

From the distance and the way I fell, it had to be a miracle! It was a soft landing. Looking back, I could have landed head or face down with my hands and legs landing on the floor first. Or I could have hit the neighbour’s separation wall. Or landed on my back. All these possibilities may have been fatal or left me paralysed, especially considering my age and that I weighed 75kg then.

My wife and I believe that God sent His angels to watch over and protect me. God knew exactly how I should fall.  His angels had turned my body to face the sky, held my curled body with my buttocks downward and I landed on the tiles with my left buttock first, reducing the impact of my fall. I thank God for His mercies, protection, and love over my life.

Psalm 91, a psalm I have been confessing most morning, says in verses 11-12 “for He will command His angels concerning you to guard you in all your ways, they will lift you up in His hands, so that you will not strike your foot against the stone.” I am paraphrasing it now for I had experienced the reality of that promise – for God had commanded His angels to hold me so that when I fell, I did not strike my body against the wall or tiled floor with damaging impact.

Hallelujah! Praise the Lord!

Two weeks later we went to Japan via Shanghai on a pre-booked cruise. I was able to carry the luggage, and I took long walks as part of the trip’s itinerary. We had an excellent holiday. God is good and He even granted me to go ahead with my planned holiday.
