At the Sunset Mass of the Solemnity of Pentecost, 56 young Catholics from the Church of St Francis Xavier (SFX) received the Gifts of the Holy Spirit in the Sacrament of Confirmation. Archbishop Murphy Pakiam presided at the Mass which was concelebrated with SFX parish priest, Fr Albert Tan SJ. The church was packed with some 1,500 faithful, many coming to pray specially for the candidates.
In his homily, Archbishop Pakiam said that there is a Nine-day Novena to the Holy Spirit from the Ascension to Pentecost in the Liturgy of the Hours, the Official Worship of the Church.
He went on to quote Jesus’ words: “I will send you the Advocate, the Holy Spirit and remind you all that I have said.” The prelate added that it is important for apostles of Jesus to follow Him and to hear Him.
We have the capacity of sight, hearing, and knowledge. But without the Holy Spirit — we will not be able to know God. “Thus it is important to receive the Holy Spirit,” said Archbishop Pakiam.
