The blind man jumped up, left his coat there and went to Jesus. (Mark 10:50)
When you want to get to Jesus you got to leave your coat behind, don’t carry your past baggage with you. You got to let go of everything that has been miserably sustaining your survival and go to him just as you are! You can’t go to Jesus carrying plan ‘B’ with you, thinking that you could use it, in case things don’t turn out for you. In other words, you can’t put your faith in your past and try to put your other part in Jesus. When you go to Jesus you go alone, stripping away everything you had relied upon in your past and trusting him fully that He is able and He is your absolute hope and breakthrough. That simply means you are willing to put your entire faith in Him, in whatever challenges you may be facing right now for that matter!
In the ancient days people were easily identified by the clothes they wore. You could at a glance differentiate a Pharisee, a Levite, a Roman soldier or even a beggar. Apparently each class of people had a particular attire that they wore or required to wear according to the culture and tradition of the day. You don’t have to ask them “who are you or where do you come from”. You can simply identity them by their clothes they wore.
In the case of blind Bartimaeus, I guess he was unable to work except to beg to survive and therefore the garment he was wearing identified him as a beggar. Perhaps he was sitting there with a low self-worth, depressed and begging for mercy from others passing by.
But here is what the scripture says, when blind Bartimaeus heard the voice of Jesus, he jumped up, he didn’t wait for Jesus to approach him, the Bible says he threw off his coat and moved in the direction of the Master! Bartimaeus was too desperate to wait for Jesus to come to him despite the people around him who were trying to restrain him.
THE SIGNIFICANCE OF THE COAT
The question we need to ask is that: Why did he leave his coat behind? What is the significance? What is God telling us? Apparently the coat he wore reminded him of his past. It reminded him of his low self-worth. It reminded him of his outlook as a dysfunctional person! It reminded him of no vision and no provision!
IF YOU ARE SERIOUS OF A NEW LIFE IN CHRIST YOU NEED TO LEAVE YOUR PAST BEHIND
On the day he decided “I don’t have to wear this anymore” he left his past behind and jumped up; he received (1) a new pair of eyes, (2) a new identity and (3) a new future.
“If any man be in CHRIST he is a new creature..old things are passed away, behold all things are become new” (2 Cor. 5:17)
But you know what? You can’t just sit there begging and do nothing. You have got to move! You have got to jump up! You got to leave everything behind! You got to run to Jesus despite what others have been telling you! Despite what others have concluded about you!
For example the woman with the issue of blood in Mark 5 went to Jesus. She pushed herself into the crowd. She took the risk to get to Jesus. She didn’t wait for Jesus to come to her!
THE ENEMY WILL NOT LEAVE YOU ALONE
Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may devour: (1 Peter 5:8)
But I want to remind you today when you are faced with such challenges in your life. Your adversary will not leave you alone. He will intimidate you and confuse you with his voice of lies. He wants to stop you from your healing and breakthrough. He doesn’t want you to be set free into God’s destiny. He wants to keep you in your dysfunctional state so that he can hide behind you and have control over your life. Therefore your key is to be able to identify his voice and reject him in your circumstances and move forward with faith.
YOU CAN CROSS OVER INTO YOUR MIRACLE IF YOU CAN CHANGE YOUR MINDSET AND WALK IN THE SPIRIT
Stay alert all the time in the spirit. You may be just a moment away from your miracle that you have been seeking and waiting for. Don’t let procrastination steal your opportunity. A sick man missed his healing for 38 years because he waited for others to act. He said “I have no one to help me” (John 5:7). For years he sat aside his miracle by blaming others. He waited for Jesus to come to him and pick him up whereas blind Bartimaeus jumped up and ran to Jesus. One was giving excuses and he stayed in the same place for 38 years. The other jumped up instantly and ran to Jesus and received his healing immediately and followed Jesus into a new future.
GET UP AND GET MOVING
What has God told you to do in your circumstances? Listen! You got to Jump up and get moving! It’s when you begin to fight your battles that God joins you and makes you more than a conqueror (Rom.8:37)
The mistake we often make is that we wait for God to show up before you enter your battle and I am afraid to say to you that unfortunately, you will wait in vain all through. Move out in boldness today and see what happens!
