The Word This Week – WHOSE BOAT ARE YOU STEERING?

“If you possess these qualities….they will keep you from being ineffective and unproductive.” (2 Peter 1:8 NIV)

Then I took a good look at everything I’d done, looked at all the sweat and hard work. But when I looked, I saw nothing but smoke……(Ecclesiastes 2:11)

Seriously and realistically speaking let’s face the truth; we don’t even know what is the next moment for us. And yet we can brag about what we will do in the future. Listen! You have no idea what tomorrow will bring (Prov. 27:1).

The problem with Christians today is that we become too prophetic and presumptuous about our lives. We are so messed up today because we focus more on ourselves than on God. We close our mind and become concretized in our mentality. We have spiritualized our own desires to God’s desires. Thus we have been literally mesmerized and have got everything out of balance. We live in a world that is self-created in our thinking (Prov.23:7).   Unfortunately we override God and go around believing everything is O.K with us.

Many years down the line you become disappointed and you discover that the life you have pursued is a life of deception because of your own clever idea of what you wanted and not what God wanted you to do.

WHAT IS OUR AGENDA?

How often have we DISCOVERED that our goals and core values do not coincide or do not match to God’s will and purpose for your life? The reason why this is so is because we never waited on the Lord to direct us when we first formed this values in our ministry and life. We were too quick and full of anxiety that we forgot that it’s God’s business that we are meddling with rather than our own!

The power of the enemy is to drag us away and take us captive if our hearts are not anchored in the Holy Spirit. No matter how many years you are in ministry! No matter how important you may be, it doesn’t matter, you can still be “ship- wrecked”  if your heart is not open to God to hear His voice clearly.

GOD WILL HOLD YOU ACCOUNTABLE

Have you ever realized the way we think and behave is often very much related to what has impacted us in the past? We live with a slave mentality because of our past background. We are afraid to upset anybody. We are not willing to rock the boat. We compromise the Word and we please everybody. How can we ever go anywhere with God if what we are teaching is to keep everybody comfortable and happy? Paul did not do that! Paul had to upset certain people; he had to rebuke some people for the sake of preaching the true gospel of Christ.

THE KINGDOM OF GOD IS ABOUT GOD’S BUSINESS

You know what? It’s sad to see people struggling to succeed in something God never called them to do. Perhaps your human talent can carry you to a certain height! Or to a certain level of success but unfortunately your anointing (the supernatural gifting of God) if it’s not there for you, it would not be able to sustain you throughout. It is the divine ‘fuel’ that can sustain you to function in your call.

You know what? Until you can be true to yourself and God about what God wants you to do, I am afraid your life and ministry will merely be “self-serving”, something which is not in God’s agenda.

IF IT’S GOD’S BUSINESS YOU HAVE TO PURSUE TRUTH

David said:”teach me Your way…..that I may walk and live in Your truth.” (Ps 86:11). David was seeking the truth and he knew that truth can come from God and God alone!

You know what’s the problem with many of us today? We don’t wait on God. We want everything to be instantaneous. We forget the significant purpose that waiting is an important part of character-building. There are some things we only learn by waiting on the Lord. You know what? Our inability to wait is the cause of so many problems in our lives today. You want everything to be in a hurry but have you realized that God is unlike us? David knew the importance of waiting on the Lord.

Ecc. 3:11: Yet God have made everything beautiful for its own time. He has planted eternity in the human heart, but even so, people cannot see the whole scope of God’s work from beginning to end.

God sometimes has to work on you before He can work on your circumstances. We have become so arrogant! Many of us think “I know everything”, I know Greek, I know Hebrew. I have been to the best bible college. Have you forgotten the great teacher Nicodemus had all the knowledge and wisdom but he lacked the wisdom of God which Jesus said can only come from a born-again spirit. Jesus told him you have failed. It’s not about your head knowledge! It’s not about the wisdom of man! Many people are like Nicodemus today. They say “I understand God”. “I can steer my boat on my own”. Pastors seem to have answers for all that’s happening around. Some of them unfortunately behave like gods.

NO!!! You don’t know anything! You don’t even have a drop in the ocean of what God is all about! Come on! Get serious!

David cried out for God’s ways! His righteousness! His truth! David knew if ever he wanted to walk in God’s direction and purpose, he needed to seek the attributes of God in his life. Day and Night he meditated on God’s word to hear from Him clearly. He knew in order to sustain himself he needed Heaven to back him up and if ever Heaven is going to back him up he needed to be TRUTHFUL.. and real!!

You know what? The greatest tragedy in life is growing old and knowing that somewhere along the way, you ran too fast by leaving God behind and you LOST YOURSELF and never succeeded in being who God called you to be!! Does this speak to you today? Get real! Time is running out!!
