“Then Moses was content to live with the man, and he gave Zipporah his daughter to Moses.” (Exo. 2:21)
The Bible says, Moses became contented in Jethro’s house. Can you imagine, a brilliant man like Moses! An empire builder! One who was raised in the palaces of pharaoh. One who was educated in the wisdom of Egypt! Losing his direction in the destiny of what God had chosen for him!! Contented to being a Shepherd!
40 years of wilderness life! 40 years of not one word from God! had made this man of God to lose his composition! Lose his vision! Lose the mandate of God upon his life. Everything seemed to have died and gone away. Every glory and dignity and honor which Moses knew in the palaces of Pharaoh was now covered in the “dust of a low self-esteem.”
You know what? satan will always move into your life at the appropriate time with a hidden agenda to destroy your true identity in God. So that he can derail you from fulfilling God’s purpose in your life.
When you are demoralized with discouragement and failure, and when your spiritual temperature becomes low, that is when he will strike. He will use all the negative opinions of what others have said about you to keep you from being your true self. satan uses hurts and pain in your life to deceive you, so that he can disguise your true identity in your life. If satan can make you resentful, bitter and if he can get you angry, if he can get you guilty and shameful he has got you, he has conquered you.
When you are banished in the desert you can say you are at the lowest point in your life. It is the worst punishment you could ever get. Because when you end up in this place you bet your life God’s presence is no more there for you. You are on your own, there is no covering, and there is no help from anyone.
But you know something? Your season will never remain the same forever. Your condition will not last forever. Because seasons have to change and seasons will change. When God says it’s over, you can smile through into a new season of anointing and blessing.
The Bible says in Exodus 3:1-4, then it was just an ordinary day, just an ordinary morning. God suddenly appears to Moses and says, “now is the appointed time!, now is your “KAIROS!
“I am going to move you on into a new season. I am going to send you to accomplish my mandate to deliver my people out of Egypt. I am going to move you out of this wilderness period!
“That season is over, now I am going to take into a new season where you will do great exploits for me. You will become a mighty instrument in my hand. Despite all the encouragement God gives to Moses, unfortunately Moses’ reply was, “It can’t be true! It can’t be me! I am not fit to go! You don’t mean me God!”
It seems the self-esteem of Moses became so low that he was unwilling to face any challenges in his life any more. In fact, he was virtually struggling to reconnect himself to his own destiny! Can you imagine what the enemy has done to this man who was appointed and called to deliver the people of God to freedom?
Unfortunately, I have discovered that as I see people who have been caught up in the wilderness longer than they ought to be there, one of the things that hold them back and cripples them from moving forward in the purposes of God is their sense of inferiority. Fear of past failures. Fear of past disappointments “Fearing that if I ever attempted another challenge I will never make it.” This is how the enemy will come to destroy your true identity in God.
The enemy’s greatest strategy has never changed ever since he deceived Adam and Eve in the garden. He still uses his tool and weapon of fear that he always deploys to paralyze and destroy the potentials in a person! Fear will imprison you from being productive! Fear will make you dysfunction in the kingdom of God. And ultimately fear will demolish your visions and your dreams God has put in your life! “For God has not given you the spirit of fear but of faith and boldness, love and sound mind.” (2 Timothy 1:7)
Notice how God deals with Moses in this area. God had to first shake Moses up and deal with the low self-esteem and bring him in alignment to his true identity. God had to drag this man out of the wilderness mentality! God told Moses, “I am going to make you a god to Pharaoh”(Exo7:1) despite his adamant behavior of unwilling to step out with God until Moses had to let everything go and totally and absolutely trust God and move forward in His mandate.
When finally Moses stepped out in faith trusting God totally, in order to do that he had to let go of everything that he had built around himself in that desert experience for 40 years. He knew the presence of God will go with him but he had to first let go of the wilderness mentality (I can’t make it mentality). He knew in his heart as he stepped out in the natural, God will do the supernatural in his life.
Some of us are still sitting and staring at the water waiting to cross the river. God is saying to you today you need the step of faith to move forward so that I can move you forward with my supernatural act. I can never part open the Red Sea until you take the step of faith to move first.
What is it that you have been waiting for some things to come through for you for such a long time and yet it’s not manifesting in your life? You have come to a point where you feel tired of waiting and every hope seems to be vanishing away gradually. You carried a dream, you had a vision in the purposes of God to be fulfilled in your life but it’s yet to be seen in reality.
Here is what you need to understand for your breakthrough. You say I have been waiting for God to move all this while, but God is saying today unless you move I can never move on your behalf. When you have the kind of mountain-moving faith to confront anything in your life, you touch the heart of the father to move heaven for you.
