On December 3rd, I was privileged to attend an honorable and majestic Christmas and Thanksgiving event, in no other than The New Majestic Hotel in Kuala Lumpur. More than a hundred church pastors and leaders from different churches came to the event!
Although the rain was pouring like cats and dogs outside, guests were pouring in one after another, in smart suits and elegant dresses to greet, chat, eat and drink with each other. Delicious food lined the buffet table, as they merrily helped themselves before sitting comfortably in the handsome dining hall.
After the scrumptious meal, guests were invited to the Garden Rooftop of Majestic Hotel to watch the soiree performance by Mills Brothers, an American jazz and pop vocal quartet who sold more than 50 million copies worldwide.
As they took center stage at the rooftop, I watched guest after guest huddled under an umbrella as they moved gingerly in the light shower. The dimming lights of the sky with the pitter-patter of raindrops make the atmosphere quite an enchanting and romantic one.
Tan Sri Francis Yeoh spoke about how he valued members of Christ in coming together as one body in Christ, hence holding the event! He also spoke about how Majestic hotel was the location where FGA, his home church, held its service before it moved from a shop house in section 19 and the home of Dr and Mrs Koh Eng Kiat. Reminiscing the humble beginnings of FGA, he gave glory to God’s creativity, providence and favor in giving him reign on Majestic Hotel.
After his speech, the Mills Brothers sang many good jazz and traditional pop songs such as Paper Doll, Only You and You Always Hurt the One You Love.
Before I left, I was reminded of how beautiful our Lord Jesus is. Standing on a platform, I realized that the sky was evidently becoming darker that only a sea of black umbrellas was visible from atop. The audience was only illuminated by the brilliant warm red and yellow hues casted by the stage.
Although it was dark and wet outside, I felt warmth and snug inside. This sight reminded me that although we go through rainy, gloomy and dark days of our lives, we can always shelter ourselves from the trouble and misery in this world with His Word and fix our eyes to Jesus onstage who is our LIGHT, love, joy and peace!
Perhaps, God brought the rain to make this night a memorable one… and indeed it was!
May He raise more mighty Christians such as Tan Sri Francis Yeoh and Robert Chong, to serve Him in their work—be it a full-time ministry or business. Amen.
